Dianette

It’s a contraceptive pill that is also used for acne treatment. I trust my GP and if he has prescribed it to me, I take it it’s not going to kill me. But the thing is, the pill has been linked to several deaths across Europe. Here’s one from last month: Dianette: My beautiful cheerleader daughter died in agony all because she took this acne drug | Mail Online

As a result, it’s banned in some European countries. Naturally I’m a bit apprehensive about taking Dianette so thought I’d ask GSers for their opinion regarding this drug. Have any of you taken Dianette? If so, for how long? What are the side effects like and what are some of the signs of adverse drug reactions to watch out for?

Re: Dianette

My knowledge on the matter (naturally) is not the best but have you thought about taking a different pill that has the same effect? If there is a risk I would personally avoid.

Re: Dianette

My acne is pretty dheet and the GP said this is the most effective hormonal treatment so we're going to try it out for 3 months. If it doesn't suit me, I guess we can always change it. But it's still quite scary, I read that it's also linked to a higher risk of breast cancer so I'm like err okayyy :/

Re: Dianette

Well I suppose one thing to keep in mind is how your body reacts to it and if that is a negative then of course stop using it. However, I think what ever pill/medicine you do decide to take will have some form of side effects. Now, only if there were natural remedies? I'm sure the motherland has something to offer?!
lol

Re: Dianette

This is the first time I am hearing of it....I would avoid it..specially if it is BANNED in some countries!

Re: Dianette

avoid it!

Re: Dianette

It's not FDA approved in the US so don't know much about it :/

From the limited amount of material I read...I would probably stay away from it. Maybe someone whose actually taken it or from the UK area can help you out.

Re: Dianette

In the UK they do prescribe it but with a caution. YOU can use it for about two years but its better to stay away from it as diane got many side effects.

Re: Dianette

Has your doctor recommended accutane for acne? That drug also has serious side effects but great for stubborn acne. Don't think it's banned in any county though.

Re: Dianette

Someone in Pakistan took a contraceptive pill for her acne. It did wonders for her acne but whenever she went off it, the acne came back. She did not suffer any ill effects though to my knowledge. Her mom wasn't too keen on her taking it as she was unmarried and was worried about side effects.

Re: Dianette

Too many unanswered questions. At the very least, get a second or even third opinion. As a scientist I am sure you are also capable of doing your due diligence.
