Dhoop lagwana !

you know how elders say in Pakistan that bedding and all clothes should be refreshed every now and then and exposed to plenty sunlight?

How do you guys manage in your homes specially those living in apartments/ cold countries with little sunshine …

Re: Dhoop lagwana !

STA , lucky you at least you get to wear clothes that are perfectly crisp and dry :lifey:

Here in the north of England, we dont get alot of sun and because it rains literally all the time so its difficult to put clothes out for airing .. so we are wholly dpendent on using the dryer or drying the clothes on the radiators !

Clothes never come out crisp … I miss the time I lived in the desert , it was so much fun … towels and bedsheets would look totally awesome after a wash ..

Re: Dhoop lagwana !

You know, I hate dryer because they kill shining and life of clothes. I found it better to hang them.

Re: Dhoop lagwana !

It is a good way of killing all the bacteria which would thrive in hot and humid environments. Their wisdom was based on observation , they did not know this concept of bacteria thriving in hot and humid places. They observed that clothes which were let out in the sun by mistake smelled fresher than the ones indoors . Therefore they came up with this system of dekhaing dhoop to bedding and clothes to dry clean them.
In cold and dry places it should not be that big an issue. If you feel the need you can expose your bedding and clothes to UV light by buying a couple of those UV lamps.

Re: Dhoop lagwana !

^ thats true actually.. unfortunately we dont have a choice werna hanging clothes in open air with plenty of sunshine is the best way of drying clothes …

I normally try to tie up the blinds and curtains during the day so that the little sun that we get can come into the house and at least take some moisture away and freshen the place up .. coz i think most elders say Sunshine plays an important bit in killing germs .. i wonder sometimes if thats true :hmmm:

Re: Dhoop lagwana !

If you live in an apartment your landlord will object to a clothesline and if you live in a condo or single family home in US your homeowners association will pangafy. :bummer:

Re: Dhoop lagwana !

i wonder if we get them here , never seen them in an homes of friends or family ... have you used them Mirch?

Re: Dhoop lagwana !

What do you mean.. so does that mean even if you got a private garden or backyard , you still cant put up a clothesline?

Re: Dhoop lagwana !

yahan par tou dhoop hi nahi nikalti. :naak:

Re: Dhoop lagwana !

I neither live in condo nor apartment. :snooty: who will going to tanka jhanki in my own backyard.

if you live in home and you own your backyard then it is ok.

Re: Dhoop lagwana !

My home owners association does , can someone give me legal advice as to can I sue them for invasion of privacy and kick their butts. I am sick and tired of their invasion. How the heck they would know what is in my backyard if they did not invade my privacy. :mad2:

Re: Dhoop lagwana !

here u r not allowed to hang clothes in balcony :nono:
if ppl do police comes n fines u

so despite of having enough sunshine v use dryer

Re: Dhoop lagwana !

I do not need to , I live in an area where we get all four seasons. Alhumdulillah.
My comment on UV lamps was based on simple knowlege and observation , They are used for this purpose.

Re: Dhoop lagwana !

***the famous phrase relates to woolen clothes which, at the end of winter, were usually stowed away in steel trunks which attracted moldy smell and moths [which ate away expensive winter clothing] when you took them out to wear at the beginning of the winter. i remember elders putting neem twigs and naphthalene balls in between the layers of clothing to save from the moth.

these winter clothes were also taken out from the steel trunks once or twice in between winters and laid out in the hot summer sun for a day or two.***

Re: Dhoop lagwana !

Most welcome , in a couple of weeks my home will be surrounded by roses and many other flowers. I will post pictures then. I posted some pictures of my home in fall season. Once I posted some pictures after snowfall in winter.
