I never understood the purpose of a dholki. We always sit around trying to figure out what song to sing next or what to do. I find dholkis pointless and a waste of time.

I would never have a dolki plus a mehndi I think its a waste of time and money.
If I really wanted a dolki I would do it in my house with just my girl cousins and friends one evening and also do the haldi ritual that night. I find it pointless to hire a hall and do a dolki, make people come from so far then have a mehndi on top. UNLESS your getting married in Pakistan and you want a function here also x

Dholkis are informal little parties usually between very close family and friends.
Its not a bad idea if someone else wants to do it. It can be a lot of fun too.

Dholkis have gotten out of hand, that's why they feel like it's a waste. Dholkis are supposed to be more informal, like Reha said, with people gathering to begin the celebrations and get into the shadi spirit. I like them.

I'm having a dolki at my house. Its not going to be like 'an event' just aunts, cousins whoever can will come over. It wont be akward singing. Doesnt have to be. We'll just set up the lounge with gadhey and cushions on the floor. We'll have a laugh, put haldi on etc.
But its definitely not going to be in a hall like some girls do with my chaddi's showing putting haldi on infront of my chachey and tayee. No thank you.

hehehe ive seen lots of girls on gs talking about wearing short capri's on their dolki event so that they can have haldi put on all over. I find it so necessarily. You might as well hve a public shower on your wedding day as well!
