oh well i love dholki parties
it’s fun
what in the hell is dholki party??
Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't this "dholki" party basically a preparation and rehersal for the final show which is at "mehendi"?
isnt dholki , the ubtan wala part .. n everything is yellow...
n mehendi is when u take the mehendi to each others house?
yupp i luv attending them :bhangra:
but i prefer them when they are all girls…don’t like the new trend in pak of guys invading the function ![]()

I maybe wrong, but isn't that called "mayoon"?
The way I remember is that there are a number of "dholkis", where the girls prepare for their dance routine for mehendi function.
Then a day before mehendi will be "mayoon" function.
After that are two mehendis
Then nikkah+rukhsati
Then walima.
well, i am not sure about the origin of dholki or singing of songs before weddings. I have seen something called sangeet in sikh and hindu weddings as FF described..on the other hand..its also part of some other cultures too..i was told by some arabian gals and somalian girls that they have this tradition as well..so i guess its part of different other cultures too..
i haven't attended many weddings in my life time..most of them just had mehndi mayoon (also called ubtan) functions..or they either just had very simple dhol bajai and singing before wedding..
the best one was my own dholki..hehehe..one of my aunty brought a dhol from her city..but none of the gals knew how to play dhol...so i volunteered to play at my dholki..and then aunties started singing old songs which the gals didn't knew..so i end up singing songs with aunties too..so basically i did sang songs and dholak bajai on my own dholki..and everyone was like..haay aaj kal ki dulhan ko daikho..haha. But it was fun..i never thought..that we'll have so much fun..and then all the gals gathered up in a room and locked it..and danced too..that was cool too :-)
^ heh ..that sounds like lot of fun :)
ahh then dholki is different from mayoon..
Isn’t this dholki, baaraat and gaana bajaaanaa stuff un-islamic? Proof:
According to Mufti Ibrahim Desai, these are all Hindu customs that deviate from Islam. He states:
-
These customs have no basis in Islam, hence, they must be abandoned. There is no such thing as ‘Baraat’ in Islam. The Nikah should be plain and simple. (Baaraat, gaana bajaanaa etc.)
-
This is an innovation which must be shunned. (Sehra)

I just want to make sure that my muslim brothers and sisters not deviate from the straight path of Islam.
:jazak: Brother Arvind, nice to see you having such concerns for islam, when did you become muslim.
^^
Hey , I did not want to go to heaven and not find any of you guppies there. Would be so boring na?
