Dholki help

Ladies i need your help.

so my cousin is having a dholki for me this saturday  and we were a little uncertain abt some rasams and such… please help us.

  • do the girls bring out the bride under a duppatta ???
  • if so what song wuld be nice for it?
  • does everybody feed the bride mithai n stuff?

Re: Dholki help

well for my sister's dholki, we did bring her underneath a dupatta but we didn't feed her mithai or anything like that. And like nearly every Pakistani wedding, we played "Mehndi hai rachne wali" when bringing her out.

Re: Dholki help

^ oh ok...yeah i love that song :)

Re: Dholki help

that is really sweet :)
i wish i had more cousins like that :p

Re: Dholki help

thats sweet.

usually dholkis are informal gatherings of ladies, young and old, singing songs, dancing and eating.

for the entrance song..hmmm..there are tons! yes, mehndi hai rachnewali is very popular. on my mehndi i had merged two songs....there is a mehndi song from teh movie Kisna and also Tenu Leke (the folk part, and the last verse where the girl sings).

there usually isnt the whole mehndi rasam thing. maybe the uptan/mitthai rasam. but i dont think its necessary... just a lot of dance and hula ghula.

is it a bridal shower type event?

Re: Dholki help

For my sister's dholki...it was at home and very informal. No official song to bring her out...we did set up a really pretty stage though and took a TON of pictures. We did dhol and mehndi and karaoke. We are a total karaoke family. :)

..I love your idea!! Please share the rest! Looking forward to it! Those invites were really nicely done! What a great way to save money!

Re: Dholki help

^ :) the dholki is the saturday...will post all the pictures afterwards :)

Re: Dholki help

Congrats :)

We had a very informal event for the Dholki. Just close family and friends singing and having a good time. The more formal stuff like making an entrance and mithai eating was saved for the mehndi.

Share some of pictures! :)

Beautiful! Beautiful! Beautiful!

Re: Dholki help

love the decorations love the cake too its soo cute!

Re: Dholki help

Lucky, lucky gal! It is so great to have friends like these. Where did you find that dupatta you used as the stage?

MashaAllah! May Allah grant you all the happiness in the world! :bb:

Re: Dholki help

Can the bride sing/clap/whatecer, or will those tongues start wagging if I do? And I don't think I want a stage....I really don't want to be the center of attention in front of everyone...... :(

Re: Dholki help

^ i was singing n did a dance and no one had a problem...but its was only ladies this dholki.

Re: Dholki help

Re: Dholki help

^ oh neesha did my hair...she used my Chi straighter for the curls, and as she was curling them she used Pantene Pro-V ice shine hairspray (only hairspray i had at home). I took her almost two hours to do my hair ...and they came out great :)

Re: Dholki help

Desi sharades - we just used desi movie titles instead of american movies. also, instead of dividing the ppl into two groups...we just had everybody go to the front and pick a card and act out...while the others try to guess the movie. At the end of the game i got to pick who did the best acting.
