Dhola-Lover, A way of calling lover/beloved one ..As Noor Jahan said.."meray dhol spahiya" My beloved soldier..

and not sure where it is driven from..but i think its from Rajhistan (also used in punjabi) before or after the Dhola-Maru Rajhistani folklore

Dhola's literal meaning is innocent lover, well in connection with dhola-maru folk tale this term is described as song of an absent lover. Dhola-maru is a tale of marriage, separation and reunion of rajput princess maru ( in punjab she is called as sammi) and prince of navargarh, dhola(probably dhola was nick name). According to punjabi tradition, in pain of separation, sammi danced and sang songs for dhola so the rerm dhola linked with absent lover/husband.
