They serve on charpai outside the resturant.Inside it is similar like any other resturant.
It is useless to go there and eat inside..... dhaba style just killed.....

Re: Dhaba culture
500 years back means during Sher Shah Suri and Akbar's period. That were called 'Sara'ay' not dhaba.
Still exists...Sara'ay Alamgir...although its not Inn any more but the name "Sara'ay" remained
Alexander the Great and some mughals like Aurangzeb had a history there

Re: Dhaba culture
i dunno about Pakistani roadside dhaabaas but in India this place is notoriously known for bad environment. it's most patrons are truck drivers and luchhe lafange students and a local centre for drug/alcohol abuse. decent families do NOT go there.
one of my extended family member owns a dhaaba near Allahabad so he invites us to his house where he brings foods from his dhaaba [to get the dhaabaa taste].
i like their makkhani daal and that's about it.

to great extent this also applies to Pakistani dhabas. Not all families are comfortable to go and eat on a dhaba. The places like Al-Habaib, etc near Super High way, Karachi are an exception and meant for those who just go on long drives with family. Other-wise, there are many dhabas Hawkes Bay and you will hardly find any family visiting these dhabas.
