Devil in the east

How does hinduism tackle good and bad? For instance Islam/Xtianity has satan/devil/ibliss that is evil or bad, dirty etc. God/Allah has an angel gone rogue in Western religions, how does the bad part workout in Hinduism/Buddhism or in Eastern religions.

Please keep this thread to serious comments only. In other words if you dont have anything intelligent to say dont say it. Gracias.

Re: Devil in the east

what goes comes around..jaisa karogey vaisa bharogay..social darwanism combined with the drive towards attainment of profundity through doing good deeds in life.

Re: Devil in the east

Mods please move this to religion, my apologies. Never really noticed that world affairs was a subheading under "Politics & Religion". Thank you.

Re: Devil in the east

Extrapolate. So there is no devil/evil, it is man’s actions?
Satan not required? Evil associated with makind and its actions? Would the two statements be true in eastern religions?

Re: Devil in the east

I don't think "evil" is embodied in any particular being, or symbolized by a being as it is in Western religions (satan, waghera).

Not sure though.

Re: Devil in the east

sure it is, "evil" is embodied as satan/shaitan. As far as "symbolizing by a being" angels are beings as well; satan was an angel gone rogue.

Speaking of beings, is God a being? hence physical?

Re: Devil in the east

dont they incarnate into some "lesser being" (like an animal or lower caste) if they are being evil/bad in hinduism?
off topic: how many times can one incarnate in hinduism?

Re: Devil in the east

His status was elevated to an angel but he wasn’t the angel. He was a Jinn.

:bism:
18:50 Behold! We said to the angels, “Bow down to Adam”: They bowed down except Iblis. He was one of the Jinns, and he broke the Command of his Lord. Will ye then take him and his progeny as protectors rather than Me? And they are enemies to you! Evil would be the exchange for the wrong-doers!

Re: Devil in the east

I don't think the Hindus believe in a devil. But then again, I have met lots of Hindus, and they each give me a different explanation of their religion. I have yet to figure out if they believe in 1 God or in many different ones, or 1 God in the form of many different faces.

I've never heard a Hindu talking about the Devil. Like as in the Devil Muslims,Christians, and Jews believe (although not worship).

Re: Devil in the east

so what does the goddess 'kali' represents?

Re: Devil in the east

AQ - that doesn't make sense - the verse is saying that God commanded the Angels to bow down - and one didn't who was Iblis. Which means that Iblis was an Angel. Unless there is some issue with the distinction between and Angel and a Jinn.

Is a Jinn a lower form of an Angel?

I have looked it up in my books, but the footnotes for that verse point to some other book that I don't have.

Re: Devil in the east

Actually it is the Raawan who is the bad figure i think (with 8 heads)...

Re: Devil in the east

So is that where they get “kali” as being bad???

And that’s why darker girls have a hard time in our society. Saalay Hindus.

Re: Devil in the east

let’s carry on in a different thread  shall we?

open up a thread and we will talk there.

Re: Devil in the east

nevermind, I just googled it - found some things that make sense. So he was a Jinn.

Funny, in Islamic school they teach us that he was an Angel :o

Re: Devil in the east

PCG: I think that is a Christian point of faith I guess.. but he really was a Jinn and it is categorically told to us in Quran.

According to ahaadeeth, Iblis(as is addressed in Quran meaning the cursed one) has a name too. Azaazeel

Re: Devil in the east

Azaazeel...

Hm, any parallel to that in any other faiths? The name that is?

Is it like the Arabic version of the name Lucifer?
