So apart from the discussion, whether it was a good / bad idea or whether or not it survived, have you ever think why this idea flourished?
I mean what were the factors that lead to this bifurcation and deviation from the earlier accepted single identity i.e. Indians / Hindustani.
What was the turning point, as we see Muslims and Hindus alongwith Sikhs struggling against British not only in 1857 but in Khilafat Movement of 1920s and Jalianwala Bagh incident.
from wikipedia: The Sikhs and Pathans of the Punjab and North-West Frontier Province supported the British and helped in the recapture of Delhi.[65][66]
Muslims was the main party to bear the loss as sir syed ahmad advised them. So muslims should not rely on hindus as they were pro-British.
British started selectively improving Hindus as they thought muslims as their enemy even though Hindus were majority in number and rebellion was essentially a Hindustani effort of throwing British off
So Brits in all their wisdom, declared Hindustanis as non-martial and stopped their recruitment in the army and selectively targeted Urdu-speaking muslim for such treatment, that is why upto 1946, Muslim league was essentially party of Urdu speaking people :)

But Bengalis were the founding members of Muslim League and what do you mean by British targeted Urdu speaking people? Does that mean Muslims of UP and Delhi?

Liaquat, Jinnah were mostly Urdu speaking, Bengali muslim were mostly foot soldier, intellectual element of League was mostly Urdu speaking.
Pakistan was mostly an argument by Jinnah to further Muslim demand in India, it was believed that Congress will accommodate their version of Islamic ideas in independent India.

Jinnah was Gujrati like Gandhi. Liaquat was from Punjabi Muslim family. Bengal Muslim League got leaders like Hussein Shahid Suhrawardy and Maulvi A K Fazlul Haq.
If i am right, till 1938, there was no Pakistan or two nation theory, yes some talks on the street of Hindus being in majority and chances of Muslims shall remain minority but no one bought it and Muslim league lost it in 1938, not body from muslims bought it.. and then come elections and Congress formed govt... this govt was the turning point for muslims... when Quaid-e-Azam celebrated the end of Congress-Raj as Yom-e-Nijaat... this point forwarded muslims of indo-pak saw what is ahead..
there were other incidents but i guess congress rule was the main turning point.

Then why Iqbal is called 'thinker of Pakistan', as he died in 1938 before Congress rule?
Then why Iqbal is called 'thinker of Pakistan', as he died in 1938 before Congress rule?
like i said, there was some talks or thoughts and thats about it... Iqbal has some influence (remember it was called Diwanay ka khawab) but not enough to break what Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, Molana Mohd Ali Johar and Shokat Ali Johar had. Muslims of India wanted liberation and they were of the the thought that they can again bring the Hindu Majority under their control... call it what ever but most of the muslims and its leadership was of this opinion.
Iqbal and Quaid-e-Azam were of the same opinion later it was changed hence Khutba-e-Illah'bad, and later 2 nation theory dated back to Mohd Bin Qasim.
If i may, Pakistan Muslim League lost the elections of 1938 and it was horrible loss.. the reason was no body bought that idea.
I think we have discussed it or not, but still we say that This Jamiyat-e-Ulema Islam was against the Paksitan and were remained against it till the day Pakistan was created... the congress rule of 1938, had many changed their view of living together but still few had it.
