Dear ,
I am writing to you to inquire about the possibility of in-kind donations of a couple of paintings from you for the silent auctions for Once Upon A Raj, a gala benefit in New York for Developments in Literacy (DIL), the only international organization committed to promoting female literacy in Pakistan.
The Gala Benefit will be held on November 10, 2006 at Cipriani 42nd Street in with 500 guests from the New York philanthropic community attending. On this evening, Developments in Literacy will be honoring Mr. Ted Turner, Chairman of Turner Enterprises and the UN Foundation, for his philanthropy. Your donation will be recognized in printed materials and I will send you an official letter for the gallery retail amount of your painting, so you can use it for tax deduction.
Paintings or photographs by contemporary southasian women artists would be a wonderful way of showing support for this cause in particular and also suit the interest our our guests have shown through enthusiastically bidding at previous benefits. Im coming to you because this occasion provides an opportunity to introduce new artists to an art buying constituency and while most of our lots (paintings, designer clothes, jewelry, and luxury services) are in the $1,000 to 25,000, I feel strongly about giving young artists and designers visibility and am looking for items that could begin bidding at around the $500 range.
We hope that we can count on you to support our efforts for female literacy, one of the most crucial social issues facing Pakistan today. Since 1997, DIL (a registered 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization) has established 200 primary and secondary schools, educating over 11,000 children in some of the most disadvantaged rural areas. All monies raised from the auctions at the New York gala benefit go to support our mission.
We are working to create an exciting and memorable evening and look forward to your support this year.
