Detestable animals?

Strangely scriptures reveals that number of animals are detestable , some even to the point of NOT being looked at or touched even.

First let me say, this thread is meant to guide as well as share information between those who have knowledge concerning such matters, since information is vital for our growth.

Lets look at the Dog First:

In earlier times, some folks understood the dog to be a forbidden animal

This is conveyed in the following texts kept sacred by the Aztecs as well as the hindus

1. The Aztec believe that the fourth sun, “Nahui-Atl” ( “Four-Water,”) ended in a gigantic flood that lasted for 52 years. Only one man and one woman survived, sheltered in a huge cypress. ** But they were changed into dogs by Tezcatlipoca, whose orders they had disobeyed **
   Ibrahim says; Here due to disobedience God changed man into dogs is the basic notion. Similarly this notion is also confirmed in The Qur’an when it comes to the pig and apes)

In the Hindus scriptures it is mentioned that:-

2. “And whilst not coming into contact with Sudras and remains of food; for this Gharma is he that shines yonder, and he is excellence, truth, and light; but woman, the Sudra, ** the dog, and the black bird (the crow), are untruth: he should not look at these, lest he should mingle excellence and sin, light and darkness, truth and untruth.” ** – Satapatha Brahmana 14:1:1:31.

Ibrahim says; here again , it is advised NOT to look at a dog /black birds as they should be considered detestable.

In Islam too ,it is well known that dogs are detested by the Angels, hence Not advisable for Muslims to keep them in their houses although they can be used for hunting purposes .

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith Hadith 3.515 Narrated by Abu Huraira

Allah’s Apostle said, ** “Whoever keeps a dog, one Qirat of the reward of his good deeds is deducted daily, unless the dog is used for guarding a farm or cattle.” ** Abu Huraira (in another narration) said from the Prophet, “unless it is used for guarding sheep or farms, or for hunting.” Narrated Abu Hazim from Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, “A dog for guarding cattle or for hunting.”

Again in the Qur’an Allah (swt) reveals the dogs behavior.

7: 176 ** If it had been Our will We should have elevated him with our signs; but he inclined to the earth and followed his own vain desires. His similitude is that of a dog: if you attack him he lolls out his tongue or if you leave him alone he (still) lolls out his tongue.** That is the similitude of those who reject our signs; so relate the story; perchance they may reflect. 1150 1151

commentary by Yusof Ali:

1151 The dog, especially in the hot weather, lolls out his tongue, ** whether he is attacked and pursued and is tired, or he is left alone. It is part of his nature to slobber. So with the man who rejects Allah. Whether he is warned or left alone, he continues to throw out his dirty saliva. The injury he will do will be to his own soul. But there may be infection in his evil example. So we must protect others. And we must never give up hope of his own amendment. So we must continue to warn him and make him think. **(7.176)

As such even though man have been warned, today many people consider dogs to be their best friends.

Believe it or not, there are millionaire dogs with humans managing their estates. **

Now let us look at the pig

The pig had also been considered a detestable animal from ancient times

The Hindus believed only a sinner will be reborn as a pig or a dog etc.

Let us read:-

“People here whose behavior is pleasant can expect to enter a pleasant womb, like that of a woman of the Brahmin, the Ksatriya, or the Vaisya caste. ** But people of foul behavior can expect to enter the foul womb, like that of a dog, a pig, or an outcaste woman.”** – Chandogya Upanisad 5:10:7.

Ibrahim says; Notice how the dog is also included here with the pig But the pig was forbidden not only as food but not to be touched in the Bible.

Let us read:-

Leviticus 11: 7. And the pig, though it has a split hoof completely divided, does not chew the cud; it is unclean for you.

8.** You must not eat their meat or touch their carcasses; they are unclean for you. **

In Islam , we are told that not only are we are not supposed to eat it, but given the reason as to how some evil human beings had been transformed into pigs and apes .

Let us read:

5: 60 Say: "Shall I point out to you something much worse than this (as judged) by the treatment it received from Allah? ** Those who incurred the curse of Allah and His wrath those of whom some He transformed into apes and swine those who worshipped Evil; these are (many times) worse in rank and far more astray from the even Path! ** 770

Hence all these sacred teachings convey the same things about the Pig and the Dog, which some of us obey and others have neglected.

Even though some Christians are eating Pork , it has been forgotten that Christ himself caused the drowning of some 2000 pigs .

Let us read;

Matthew 8: 31. The demons begged Jesus, “If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.”

32. He said to them, “Go!” So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water.

** Surely those who OBEY and those who reject their own teachings cannot be EQUALS and those who reject their scriptures are Surely those that have gone astray! **
