Detergent help

So I need to handwash some shalwar qameez because I know the colors aren’t fast. I want to use a powder detergent because I feel it’ll give me better results, but I’m not sure which detergent to buy because apparently the detergents here (in Canada) are concentrated enough that they can damage the clothes. Any advice on what kind of detergent I should get? I’d appreciate a quick reply.

Re: Detergent help

I don't like powder detergent, it always tends to leave residue behind.

Liquid detergents are highly concentrated to reduce the amount of plastic bottles that head to landfills. All you do is dilute the detergent enough and you should be okay.

Re: Detergent help

^So you're saying I can go ahead and dilute my regular tide detergent with water (something like 1 part Tide, 2 parts water) and do my laundry?

Re: Detergent help

Grey, no matter what detergent you use, kapra with loose will give out it ... but here are some tips :

1- like suggested , dilute detergent in enough water... foam the water up lightly
2- make sure the water you use is not hot water ... should be cold ...
3- wash the clothes quickly to minimise loss of color ... the longer it will be in water , the more colour lost

Re: Detergent help

Oh yes, it's important to wash in cold water.

I fill the cap to the '1' mark with the mchine setting set to 'extra large'. I'm guess that's like 1:1000 ratio.
1:2 is overkill; I would dilute a LOT more.

Re: Detergent help

Thank you for the help guys.

Re: Detergent help

my begum use Johnson's baby shampoo on her "kaam waley" (ok, expensive) cloths. May sound odd but it works. I am the witness from last 10 years.

Re: Detergent help

you can get delicate fabric detergents, and it works just fine, just remember as everyone else said wash in cold water and wash quickly..
Just look through superstore or lablows laundry section and you will find them.
