Detention of POW 's for a long time .........

A few years back ,I think it was in 2003 when I saw a news clip on an Indian channel that a Chinese POW had been released from an Indian jail, who had been captured in 1962 war and had remained in prison for more than 4 decades in jail.Similarly I saw almost a similar news on today’s down that a Pak soldier captured in 1965 hasgot his calling for the release of his brother. There may be similar cases in Pak jails also where Indian POW’s would be languishing.I begin to wonder what benifit is going to fetch to any side ,by keeping POW’s for such a long time, that too ordinary soldiers.

Yea I think once war is over they should be exchanged in equal number , or for some monitory incentive . Keeping them for so long is not fair .

Re: Detention of POW 's for a long time .........

^The choice of monetary incentive may not be fair and may not withstand Geneva Convention.

But can it be sometimes that these POW 's were on espionage or did not possess valid documents to show that they were regular soldiers or their home countres refused to accept them back?
