*Cook laid out the storyline for the sequel saying, “This time around, Johnny [Depp] returns as Captain Jack Sparrow and is caught in yet another tangled web of supernatural intrigue. It turns out, Captain Jack owes a blood debt to the legendary Davey Jones, ruler of the ocean depths and captain of the ghostly Flying Dutchman. If Jack can’t figure a crafty way out of this one, he’ll be cursed to an afterlife of eternal servitude and damnation. And as if that weren’t enough, Captain Jack’s problems throw a huge wrench into the wedding plans of the blissful Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann, who quickly find themselves thrust into Jack’s misadventures.”
Disney will shoot both sequels back-to-back in Los Angeles and the Caribbean starting this March. The first sequel will sail into theaters in summer 2006 with the third film in the series opening in summer '07.
Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom will all be returning for more high-seas adventure.
They’ll be joined by actor Stellan Skarsgard as Bootstrap Bill and Naomie Harris as “a gypsy queen.” The latter could be the role that Salma Hayek had been rumored for.
Other rumored thesps include Geoffrey Rush reprising his role as Barbossa, Keith Richards as Jack Sparrow’s father, and Chow Yun Fat as 15th century Chinese pirate Cheung Po Tsai.*
Release date: July 7, 2006
Keith Richards as Jack Sparrow’s father? As a huge fan of Pirates of the Caribbean, I’m extremely excited to not only hear that the sequel will be summer 2006, but a third one is also planned. Can’t wait!
Depp made the first movie. I don’t know if he’ll be able to carry these two, which he’ll probably have to.
Although I saw apparent “sneak pictures” of what Davey Jones is supposed to look like on Ain’t It Cool News a few weeks ago, and he looks rather badass. Looks like a straight-up horror creation though, dunno how that’d fit with a comedy. He looks like Chtuhlu crossed with a human.
I loathe Orlando Bloom. What a horrible actor. He was especially bad in the first Pirates acting across Depp, whose great comic performance served only to enhance the (many) flaws evident in Bloom’s “acting ability”.
He was decent in the LOTR trilogy, playing a character who barely had lines. Coincidence?
And don’t get me started on his performance in Troy and Kingdom of Heaven. By most accounts he’s horrible in those as well. Stop giving this man work!
