Re: Details emerge about Connecticut gunman

so one of my friends made this comment: The USA needs better and more psychiatrists and psychologists, that work for the patient and not just the money, to ensure that shootings like this in the future don’t happen.

guess she is right :hinna:

what a mindless tragedy

Re: Details emerge about Connecticut gunman

Now the American media is going to create more hate for autistic people. Stupid people.

Re: Details emerge about Connecticut gunman

aren’t you being cynical bhabhi?

i dont think anyone would hate someone just because they have psychological issues …

Re: Details emerge about Connecticut gunman

^I was reading the comments of American parents who have autistic kids and they were explaining how their kids are being bullied in school after the news was on tv and they’re going through mental trauma.

And what about those killers who are “normal”…are we going to put them on ritalin and prozac as well?

Re: Details emerge about Connecticut gunman

Autism is NOT a psychological disorder! :smack:

It’s a neurological/developmental disorder that effects communication and socializing skills. There is NO direct correlation between autism spectrum and psychosis/violence.

I wish people & the media would educate themselves rather than grasp at straws

Re: Details emerge about Connecticut gunman

^^i know khatti meri fellow dhoklan it was my mistake i was responding to the personality disorder (which i read as psychological disorder :smack:) part of the headline and also hareem bhabhi’s autism comment at the same time and ended up mixing the two

kher thanks for clearing that up my post does make it seem like autism is a psychological disorder which it isnt (and i know it isn’t :hehe:)

Re: Details emerge about Connecticut gunman

This is what Morgan Freeman said, and I agree with him :

TURN OFF THE NEWS…

Morgan Freeman’s brilliant take on what happened yesterday :

"You want to know why. This may sound cynical, but here’s why.

It’s because of the way the media reports it. Flip on the news and watch how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are household names, but do you know the name of a single victim of Columbine? Disturbed
people who would otherwise just off themselves in their basements see the news and want to top it by doing something worse, and going out in a memorable way. Why a grade school? Why children? Because he’ll be remembered as a horrible monster, instead of a sad nobody.

CNN’s article says that if the body count “holds up”, this will rank as the second deadliest shooting behind Virginia Tech, as if statistics somehow make one shooting worse than another. Then they post a video interview of third-graders for all the details of what they saw and heard while the shootings were happening. Fox News has plastered the killer’s face on all their reports for hours. Any articles or news stories yet that focus on the victims and ignore the killer’s identity? None that I’ve seen yet. Because they don’t sell. So congratulations, sensationalist media, you’ve just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or a maternity ward next.

You can help by forgetting you ever read this man’s name, and remembering the name of at least one victim. You can help by donating to mental health research instead of pointing to gun control as the problem. You can help by turning off the news."

Re: Details emerge about Connecticut gunman

Media is pathetic.

Re: Details emerge about Connecticut gunman

Oh I was referring to some other news I came across that used the term “autism” and "Asperger’'s. I think I caused a bit of confusion there. :sid:

So many headlines and newspapers are calling it, “personality disorder and autism”.

Re: Details emerge about Connecticut gunman

Did that when my first child turned 1…regardless of all the pressure from friends and relatives. Never regretted my decision alhamdulilah.

Re: Details emerge about Connecticut gunman

Roger Ebert said the same thing when asked about violent movies after the Columbine shootings. Let’s stop watching this BS. I prefer to read the news anyways, or watch independent media online. There are no production values but that’s a good thing, you get facts and analysis. Nothing else.

Re: Details emerge about Connecticut gunman

Loved the comments posted on yahoo under the news…good to know a lot of people are speaking out against the media’s retardness.

Adam Lanza: ‘loner with poor social skills’ - Yahoo! News UK

some of the comments…some people have made some excellent points.

*****This article is speculative rubbish… Having Asperger doesnt mean you are mentally disturbed.. There was obviously other underlying problems that may or maynot have been detected..

*****This is #$%$, I have mild aspergers, yes I have difficulty with crowds, people and I’m pretty highly anxious at the minute (mainly due to no job after such a long time), I’ve hated a lot of people in the world but to do this…there’s no justification for it.

*****This guy does not represent us aspies (think that’s the term), yes we get scared, sometimes really stressed and I like My comfort zone, once I lost My rag with someone but later apologised (despite being in the right) and rarely lose My temper, I know the difference between right and wrong.

*****Some things in this article reg aspergers are correct, esp the meltdowns and not acting your age because of it (if it happened at work My employer let Me take a minute out and come back & sometimes you need to cool down), but yeah there’s no justifying what this sick #$%$ did to those poor innocent young lives including the teachers and everyone else, what he did was no different from the Norway killer (cept that #$%$ still around), I’d never do this nor would anyone with aspergers do this, this is down to the individual not giving a #$%$.

*****Marilyn you could be right. We have all become so accustomed to single parent families that people begin to accept it as normal. Fact is a family break up can have a devastating and long lasting effect on children.

*****My nephew is autistic and he’s not mentally disturbed, he is aware of pain and knows that doing certain things can be dangerous. Excuses for people who do evil things mount up everyday, my Nan always says that in her day it was called wickedness, nothing less and nothing more.

*****I’m sorry but this just seems like reactionary rubbish. He’s being slotted into a nice neat stereotype that the American public can feel cumfortable with. “Look… another teenage gunman. Lets call him a loner and say he had poor social skills because everyone understands that… case closed.” Its obviously far more complicated than that, and it is way too early for people to start jumping to conclusions.

*****his mother should have made sure with his problems that she should have put her guns behind a locked cabinet and no way would he have a key. she must bear some blame for this awful and savage act. but as she is dead too it can only go down on record

*****I deduced he was a loner all along and your tight-knit clique community was giving him a time! Why am I not surprised he went off his head!

*****Morgan Freeman got it spot on. This vile young man was obsessed with being famous, and with news coverage 24/7, what better way to become famous than to carry out this atrocity. What’s the betting Lanza’s name will be remembered for far longer than the names of any of his poor victims, thanks to wall to wall media."

Re: Details emerge about Connecticut gunman

the incident took place on Friday when the children were at school, and I know schools were quite about this incident infront of the students.

Anyhow most of these shooters have some sort of mental health issues that needs to be addressed.

Re: Details emerge about Connecticut gunman

Very very sad incident. May Allah help the families of victims..heal through this pain. I hope incident like these never happen again.

Re: Details emerge about Connecticut gunman

If it were anyone else that person would be a terrorist, but since its a caucasin , he has mental problems.

Good one

Re: Details emerge about Connecticut gunman

This is the gun lobby trying to find a new angle to the crime to escape responsibility. Go to msnbc and you will find more articles that blame guns. Go to fox news and you will find more articles discussing mental health issues.

Re: Details emerge about Connecticut gunman

how come stuff like this doesn’t happen in Pakistan? (Allah ka shukar that it doesn’t.)
there are autistic people there…there are aspies there…why do they not “lose it” and head out with three guns to create some drama?

Re: Details emerge about Connecticut gunman

are you suggesting that he didn’t have mental issues and that this is all a front?
