Well majority of muslims in our part of world do taqleed. And Mualvis while making people do taqleed dont allow them to read quran for uderstanding. The preach that reading quran for understanding without getting proper knowledge or permission from maulvis will make you gumrah.
And we follow the easy part which is dont read quran for understanding and keep listing ‘religious’ stories in juma prayers.

Thats where the problem lies. I do agree with you that most of the time, I came up very superficial wa’iz during jumas that might have been fulfilling for our forefathers living 2-3 centuries ago, but for current generations they are nothing like fairy tales. Most of the time, I have also observed that some molvi name wrong names related to an incident.
