Lack of knowledge actually makes everyone Aalim (the kind of aalims we see around us). These Aalims are champions of blasphemy.

I don't see lack of knowledge, but excess of ego leads to such act.

When such attitude is largely accepted by a society and people don't raise voice against such things or afraid to say something openly on these issues, its definitely lack of knowledge. Knowledge about how to deal with and tolerate difference of opinion.
Re: Destruction of that Library lead to Blasphemy Mantra
Let me explain it further.
This particular incident as in OP is considered one of the biggest tragedies of Muslim world in our history books. It is said that after this incident Muslim world failed to produce scientists and their contributions to field of technology declined to NIL after this incident.
Now, who destroyed this library? Mongols. Same Mongols for which Iqbal said ‘Passaban mil gaye Kaabe ko sanam khane se’ as Mongols converted to Islam and their decedents formed dynasties in Central Asia. Even Mughals who ruled India for almost 3 centuries were Mongols. After 1258 AD, there were three big Muslim dynasties in the world, who ruled till start of last century (i.e. First world war when Caliphate ended). Even Muslim Spain continued its journey till 1492 (240 years after Baghdad Siege).
So How many libraries these mourners of grand library of Baghdad built in their areas?
Do you know famous libraries built by Mughals in India, Safavid in Iran and Turks in Turkey and Central Asia?
Here is list of 20 largest libraries in the world.
See there out of 20 largest libraries in the world, none is in Muslim world and we are happy that every 6th person in this world is Muslim. Don’t forget to remember that we follow a religion whose start was ‘Iqra - read’.

^ I would add a little bit.
I think what had lead to such incidents is the emergence of being 'maulvi' or 'mullah' as a profession similar to priests in Catholic countries earlier.
Now these mullahs have to DO something to be seen active and justify their profession. They do two things;
Make religion more complicated than it should be (why does physical properties of the body of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) matter if you do not follow what he said?)
Indulge in 'competition' with opposing Mullahs. This gives them material to spread hatred and cement their position as religious 'leaders'.
Even if you look at catholic countries now, the countries where priests are still given much importance (South America, Philippines, etc) are some of the most corrupt countries in the "non-Muslim" world.
We never needed mullahs as professional religious consultants.
Re: Destruction of that Library lead to Blasphemy Mantra
Mullahs are not only responsible. If Mullahs are upto this, we have provided them level playing ground.
We even don't refer to primary source of our faith in our daily lives. Quran is placed at higher / out of reach corners of the home. We open it in Ramadan or when someone dies for Quran-khwani and most of the time people recite it in Arabic (without understanding) just for the sake of 'sawaab'. Quran is addressed to me by the Lord. If anyone Lord saheb from this world wrote me a letter, I would open it and will try to understand it with the help of hundred dictionaries, but in case of Quran, we don't have such attitude.
The gneral habit of reading is linked with this attitude towards Quran. How come societies like us proceed to built libraries where most sacred book is used for ceremonial purposes. Oath taking (jo kahoon ga , sach kahoonga' and putting over head of the bride at the time of Rukhsati?
Re: Destruction of that Library lead to Blasphemy Mantra
^ Agreed. And that is why we have given a few people 'authority' to dictate our religion to us.

Well majority of muslims in our part of world do taqleed. And Mualvis while making people do taqleed dont allow them to read quran for uderstanding. They preach that reading quran for understanding without getting proper knowledge or permission from maulvis will make you gumrah.
And we follow the easy part which is dont read quran for understanding and keep listing 'religious' stories in juma prayers.

Thats where the problem lies. I do agree with you that most of the time, I came up very superficial wa'iz during jumas that might have been fulfilling for our forefathers living 2-3 centuries ago, but for current generations they are nothing like fairy tales. Most of the time, I have also observed that some molvi name wrong names related to an incident.
