Have you recently come back from vacation? Visited a famous landmark? Or even just taken a quick weekend getaway? It could be anything/anywhere …local or abroad.
The idea for this thread is of share your recent travels with the rest of us…let us know where you went, the duration of your trip, what you liked/disliked about it and what if anything you’d do differently. And yes, pictures would be much appreciated!
I’ve decided to make a thread every week about my travels and post some pictures as well. This week its about Granada, Spain. I went there in June last year and had a wonderful time.
Keep Granada in your travel itinerary when visiting Spain. The main attraction is the Alhambra palace and surrounding hills. The palace alone will take 3/4 of your day so a two night stay is a must. Granada has a small airport but the train ride from Madrid is recommended. Try to travel during day time as you will be able to see beautiful scenes. The Renfe trains are clean and 2nd class compartments are very comfortable. Renfe takes pride in punctuality, so being late is highly unlikely. But the rule of the thumb is book earlier from their website, the sooner the cheaper. The prices shoot up really high when e.g. you book a week ahead.
I totally agree that no trip to Spain is complete without visiting Granada. We were in Barcelona, and took the night train to Madrid, and then on to Granada.
We stayed one day/night and then took the train back to Barcelona.
Lisbon is quite a peaceful city and had better weather when I went there last December. The whole city has laid back attitude. I did not find the usual hustle and bustle of the main city. Most of the foreigners go there to head directly to beach towns and cities. The transport is cheap and food as well. The city has quite a history of a dictator and revolution.
Been to Prague, Istanbul and Tehran so far this year..
Wondering what to do for Summer.. Family are going to Malaysia, Pakistan and BD but don't really fancy that.. Can anyone suggest a place outside Europe which isn't quite so hot in July?

Australia, NZ is worth a visit. Always sunny but July is our winter. Not really winter for those in Europe though :)
