Re: Dessert recipes that need no cooking ..

Funny you should ask this.. I just finished making white chocolate mousse. No cooking whatsover.. sans the melting of chocolate

I’ve never made it before, but can’t wait to try it out

Here’s the recipe, taken from Rachel Allen’s Food for Living Cookbook (excellent stuff)…

50g / 2oz white chocolate (chopped)
75ml double cream
half a leaf of gelatine (but I omitted this)
1 large egg white
25g/ 1oz caster sugar

1.Melt the chocolate in a bowl sitting over a saucepan of simmering water (bain marie). Set aside, leaving the chocolate to cool slightly. Whip the cream in a separate bowl until almost stiff and place in the fridge.

  1. Place gelatine in small bowl of cold water for 3-4 mins until it has softened, Drain off water and then add 2 tbsp boiling water and stir to dissolve the gelatine.

  2. Place the egg white in a medium sized bowl with half the sugar, whisk until firm and then add remaining sugar and continue whisking until mixture is stiff.

  3. Pour dissolved gelatine into melted chocolate and stir to mix, then fold in whisked egg white mixture and, lastly, fold in the cool whipped cream. Pour into glasses or bowls (glass  ), cover, place in fridge for a couple of hours till set rushes to fridge, as she forgot to cover them!

Like I said, no need to use gelatine
This serves 2 people. I doubled the ingredients and managed to fill three individual trifle/ice cream bowls.

Oh, and I’ve never really understood the whole egg white whisking thing, but I think I’ve mastered it now, thanks to this video:

Re: Dessert recipes that need no cooking ..

This is the easiest of the recipes that is always a hit

1 can crushed pineapple
whipped cream
1 orange and 1 pineapple jelly crushed
toasted almonds or walnuts
1 can sweetened milk

Just mix everything together and chill for a couple of hours...

Re: Dessert recipes that need no cooking ..

wow , that sounds really good Alishaht :lifey: thanks my dear ..

Re: Dessert recipes that need no cooking ..

alishant, is that heavy whipping cream? i want to make it for iftar party.

Re: Dessert recipes that need no cooking ..

I make something similar to Sahd's mom.

Madeira Pudding

Take a madeira cake (or any white/yellow cake for that matter) and slice off the crust/brown edges. Mash the cake in a bowl. Add half an half (cream) and mix well. Add canned fruit (ie. pineapple or mixed fruit). Decorate with pineapple rounds on the top. Sometimes I add fresh strawberries on the top as well. Very simple and yummy.

Sometimes I cube or slice the cake instead of mashing it up. It's up to you how you want to do it.

Re: Dessert recipes that need no cooking ..

Alishaht , sure will keep you updated :hugz:

In pakistan I once saw a friend make something out of crushed biscuits , cream and fruits and some other stuff … anyone knows what i am talking about? :konfused:

Re: Dessert recipes that need no cooking ..

1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 small container sour cream
1 can pineapple chunks,drained
2 cans fruit cocktail,drained
some red or orange jello ,cut up in cubes.

Mix everything except for the jello. The jello is optional though.I just put it on top to add some color.
This is the easiest dessert I have made and always a hit.
