1 small pound cake (Entenmanns or any lemon or butter cake) strawberry slices, grapes slices, banana slices, pineapple chunks(canned) kiwi slices for decoration too ..basically any fruit you like. juice of 1 lemon Jello - Instant pudding Lemon flavor(can use custard if you like) Ahmed Jello - any flavor/color
Cut the cake into into small cubes. Add sugar to the lemon juice and sprinkle mixture over the cake. On bottom of clear dish place a layer of pudding. Top with some cake. Then layer with various fruit and then jello. Repeat the layers and end with a layer of pudding on the top. Place kiwi slices/strawberry slices on top to make it look pretty.
I use Sara Lee pound cake (love that stuff!). Brush each slice with some melted jam (strawberry or apricot are my favorites). And I use canned fruit cocktail in heavy syrup, along with fresh strawberries. I use Vanilla Pudding and top with Cool Whip. Garnish with Strawberries (or other berries if available) and Kiwis .
pretty much the same way you guys have mentioned - but with a few variations
any lemon/white cake - mes makes it myself
custard
jello - two different colours (i.e. - red and green)
whip cream - made from using the dry powder found at stores
variety of fruit - bananas, apples, pears, etc.
start with the pieces of cake at the bottom of the dish
then layer on the custard
add the fruit
then the jello, and that's one layer
keep doing that until you reach the top of the dish
..once you've reached the top, you've got fruit - and on top of the fruit, throw on the whip cream, and on top of that add pieces of jello.
and ta-da!
just a tip - if it's going to be a couple of hours before you have the trifle and you don't want the fruit to go black - add some of the canned fruit. the juice that's in the can, helps prevent the real fruit from going black.
I always tried differnat style of trifle.sometime i layered cake first then custard ,then fruit ,jelly and in the end whip cream, last time i layered first cake ,sprinkle some pineapple syurp on it then fruit that include pineapple, apples ,banana then i pour orange jelly on it ,then custard and in the end whip cream.it was yummy.

how do u layer the jelly on the custard? doesnt it seep through or something ?
They way my mom makes it , and we all love it like this :
First layer is jello, cool until firmly set.
Second layer is cake (we usually bake at home)
Third layer is custard (prepare custard according to the directions on the package), when slightly cooler, add drained fruit cocktail (the canned variety).
