dessert ideas for iftar party!

In my excitement i said i would make gulab jamun…but now that just seems too time consuming as i am busy alllllllll morning!

Can anyone suggest an easy recipe for a yummy dessert!

Since fruit chaat is commonly served during Iftar…why not do something creative/different with fruit?

You can buy some frozen puff pastries (the circular shaped ones) from the grocery store. And all you have to do is thaw them and then bake them in the oven according to instructions. Let them cool…split them open with a knife…fill with whipped cream and strawberries…and drizzle with strawberry syrup.

Here’s an example of the kind of puff pastry you’d buy:
Pepperidge Farm® - Puff Pastry & Turnovers

Or if you don’t want to use puff pastries…buy some circular shaped sponge cakes…and follow the above procedure. Take two slices of sponge cake and fill with whipped cream and fruit. Below is an example:

Other ideas:

Flan/creme caramel? (This is one is SUPER SIMPLE to make and is loved by many people). It’ll take you about 10 minutes to make it. Just get the mix packet from the store. Looks like this: http://www.icecreamireland.com/images/Dessert/Cremecaramel2-sm.jpg
You can even garnish it with berries on the side.

Fruit trifle?**

A cake of your choice?

**Pudding
**
How about a Halwa? It’s a pretty light dessert. You can make a suji ka halwa. I think it’s fairly simple to make…you just add butter/water to the semolina powder and fry it up. It’ll start to thicken…then add sugar…and chopped nuts.

Kulfi? Buy the kulfi mix packet…and follow the instuctions. Pour into plastic cups…and put in freezer. When it solidifies a bit…insert posicle stick…and freeze. Before serving…simply dip the cups in warm water…put the cups on a tray…and serve to the guests. You don’t even need to do any garnishing. The guests will take the kulfi out of the cup and enjoy it on the stick.

Ras Malai?

Kheer?

**Custard?

Ice cream sandwiches?** This can be fun…and UNIQUE…because desis typically don’t serve these for deserts. But if the guests at this iftar are young like yourself…I think this would totally rock! Simply buy medium to large sized chocolate chip cookies from the bakery section of the super market. You should be able to find a stack of such cookies in a box. And then get some ice cream…flavors that people usually enjoy such a vanilla or chocolate or even both. Simply take two chocolate chip cookes…sandwich a scoop of ice cream between them…press down…make it look neat…and then freeze. Not much preparation involved. Here’s a picture:

^ LOL........yeah I know....I don't have the best nick for Ramadan :)

Alvena,

Here's another idea that I have that would make for a fun dessert and is SIMPLE to make.

1) Buy a box of brownie mix. And bake according to instructions. It'll save you time as you won't have to bake them from scratch. And there are so many boxed varieties. You can get double chocolate.......or double fudge........with nuts.......without nuts....etc etc.

2) Buy ONE carton of ice-cream (if it's a small party) of your choice.

3) Get a few bananas

4) Get some chocolate syrup

5) When the brownies cool.......cut them in big squares (or whatever size you find reasonable). To the iftar party........take your pre-cut brownies.......carton of ice cream.....chocolate syrup.....and bananas. Ask your friend to help you serve. On the plates..........place a square of brownie.......place one scoop of ice cream on top......and drizzle with chocolate syrup. You'll have brownie a la mode.

If you don't want to make something that you'll have to assemble..........then stick to a premade dish that only requires serving. :)

Kulfi!

Re: dessert ideas for iftar party!

wow RV your ideas are amazing!

Where does the banana go?
Ive never had bananas and brownies before

Re: dessert ideas for iftar party!

Eton mess

Whipped cream
Meringues; broken into pieces
Summer fruits

Rasmalai

Fresh fruit flan
Shop made flan case
Whipped cream
Decorate with sliced fruit.

You need something light after opening roza.

The bananas would go in the mix. You can add the bananas to the ice cream. If you don't want bananas........then skip them. I find that bananas marry well with brownie and ice cream.

You can choose to sprinkle nuts on top of the ice cream if you wish.
