To see that your computer actually recognizes that CD/DVD is attached, do the following:
Right-Click MY COMPUTER and go down the list and click on Properties
Then click on HARDWARE TAB, next click on Device Manager shown in the window.
This is where all components of your computer are listed.
Go to DVD/CD ROM DRIVES
click it just once, it will expand and you Should see your CD/DVD (for example: Mine's Pioneer so it shows under that) If it is there...next u want to double-click that and in the window it should say the device is working properly. Now...if all that is present and well...u can proceed and try a few other things...
For your ROM drive (CD/DVD), you might have to open up the side panel of ur PC and recheck the cable going from CD/DVD to the motherboard, make sure it's not loose or anything. Also check the power connector, make sure it's connected.
You may also wanna try a different IDE Cable (the wide thin cable that connects you CD/DVD to motherboard, sometimes they become defective.
