it is the state of intoxication which is not good. and the lethal effect of drinking and smoking on health becomes obvious when somebody is really into this.
yes, if someone has had this and tried it and is able to discern the bad effects, or is not involved in other activities associated with smoking and drinking, such as immoral behaviors and violence, then the harm is self harm at a very personal level.
the reason that Allah swt did not encourage intoxication is because personal health is a right of the body on the self. and we should be thankful that we are admonished to do so. change comes after fully realizing.

agar personal health is the right of the body on teh self toh can we outlaw ghee soaked parathay, fatty halway, pakoray, samosay, nihari, daal fry, siri paaye, katakat, maghaz masala,..afghani tikka..chaamp and all that too please.

jee nahi Fraudia bhai. i do eat fish and shrimps.
have not eaten goat and beef or chicken for a while now.
so cant say i have a taste for these now.
it is not against religion that i have dropped the consumption of these meats.
it cant be explained.
more of an animals' life loss guilt.
i can cook very goodmeat.
