he won't lose out or be looked down on if you don't think that way.
does he know you 'treat' him to designer stuff on his bday etc? that's like affirming to him that what he usually gets isn't as good.
if you buy designer, buy it because it's a nice piece or because of the quality, not the name. in fact i probably wouldn't buy anything with a prominent logo. hopefully your child will grow to understand that the reason you have bought what you have bought isn't because of the brand and that there are more important considerations.
just don't even make it an issue. make him feel comfortable and confident regardless of what he's wearing. if other parents are looking down on what you dress him in, that's really sad. and it's even more sad if they have taught their kids to do the same.
