DESIGN YOUR WEDDING YOURSELF??

Hi everyone, huma here. I’m new at paklinks and I have a question… maybe two. (sorry about the long passage ahead…)

As you know, 90% businesses in pakistan don’t have an official website! So its damn hard for us non-residents to find out if something is available in the country and where to go for it etc etc.

My wedding is nowhere near yet, but being a girly girl, I’ve started planning it out already! I want my wedding reception decor to be done by a professional. I am absolutely in love with QYT (Qasim Yar Tiwana) Events. he’s on facebook too.

However, I know he is gonna be charging a crap load of money! And by the time my wedding comes up, I won’t be surprised if he asks for 7 lakh or something!!!

So I started thinking, WHAT IF I DO THE DECOR MYSELF?

I mean, all it takes is creative thinking, the right equipment and planning planning planning, right?

I have loads of time to plan, I’m creative, I’ve already thought of a moghul theme, now all i’m missing is the WEDDING EQUIPMENT!! lol

So my questions are as follows:

Is it a ridiculous idea, in your opinion, to do the organisation/decor yourself?

And most importantly, WHERE the hell in lahore or somewhere near lahore or even in another city can I RENT WEDDING EQUIPMENT??? I can’t seem to find a SINGLE thing on the internet about this. That’s why i had to start this discussion topic. PLZZZZZZZZZ HELP ME GUYS!

I mean, all those designers and event managers and banquet hall people get their equipment from somewhere on rent… but FROM WHERE??? Where in lahore can I rent things like chandeliers, LED lighting etc etc?

I did find something on the internet but that’s in PATIALA, INDIA! lol
There’s a great company called DST EXPORTS (there’s also another website VDI EXPORTS which is very similar to the DST exports website so i don’t know which one is authentic!) so anyways, DST EXPORTS has ALL the equipment you can think of for your wedding! From flowers to catering equipment to stages to pillars and so much more! But i don;t know if they rent their equipment or not, may be they only sell it.

If I can do my wedding reception’s decor for alot cheaper than what the designers charge in lahore, I’m ready to go even as far as Patiala for the equipment! (yes, i’m serious!)

So guys, i hope u get what i’m trying to ask. Please help me out and forward me your suggestions

well i tried doing this...the wedding decor myself but it ended up that I had to leave the decor to the same ppl I rented the venue from...why? because (1) i did not have the time to go hunting for candles and stuff i was too busy with my cards and clothes and jewellery and (2) the venue did a good job

llxxll, Thanks for the reply.

Once I figure out where to hire decor equipment from, the only issue left would be that of time management. If I am to do everything by myself, I'll need atleast 3-4 months in lahore. This could be quite unlikely especially if I have a job by then. They obviously won't let me go on "vacations" for more than a couple of weeks. Unless ofcourse, I decide to quit the job before my wedding and look for another job near where I'll be settling after marriage.

So anyways... The question of "WHERE to hire decor equipment in Lahore" is still open.

I am thinking of using a graphic design software to design what the decor would look like, or just simply sketch all the details on paper. I could then show this to an event manager and ask him to set it up just as I have illustrated.

if you get a job, why not stick with it and then you can afford this dude?

or maybe someone more reasonable and get them to copy a theme that you like. i'm sure other event people or decorators will know where to get stuff from but they might not have the creative eye. so you direct and select what you want from various places but leave it to them?

stoppit, that's what I meant by the previous comment. That I'll give out all the details and intstructions to an event manager.

About the job.. I'm talking about getting a job here in Ireland once I graduate in a few months. They usually hire on temporary contracts (the irish economy is messed up and definitely no one is giving out permanent contracts). So I'm gonna be doing a job here in Ireland for 3 years or so. Once I have enough savings, only then will I think about getting married. And by then, Inshallah I'll be able to afford it.

I'm not planning on staying in Ireland for the rest of my life. I don't like living here! If there's any irish desis here, they'll know what I'm talking about. Anyways, I'll be moving to a different country after 3-4 years. So sticking with my first job in Ireland is not an option. I'll stick with it as long as I am in Ireland. But I'll obviously have to quit if I decide to move to a different country after my wedding.
