i think most of the desi ladies were not really aware of health issues like nowadays every channel u go to is goin bout weight loss including the desi ones and now they r becomin so aware of it, the only thing they cant leave is salan and roti cos they r so used to it :P
fitness is not an important part of typical desi culture. and women are secluded creatures in desi societies. their fitness routine is limited to housework. any girl who is into sports or looks fit as a teen is considered masculine. desi ghee is worshiped as the ultimate healthy food. do we need more reasons?
whoever said desis have bad genes must commit suicide asap and do the world a favor.
Maybe they think that since they've hit 40s there's no need to look after themselves. It may be a psychological thing perhaps. Plus our cuisine does not help at all. The worst you could do to yourself is have desi food 24/7 lol
This is so true. My mom’s reaction towards obese children is " Sehatmand bacha hai, aap log to kuch khatay hi nahin ho" “Mom he’s not sehatmand, obese hai, mota, he’s fat” How can an obese be healthy? They can’t run and do things that we can
In the subcontinent, usually poor people are skinny due malnutrition and labor work. Their poor diet and labor works also causes sickness and premature aging.
So being fat was/is a sign of wealth and health.
Another side effect is fair skin/light skin. Poor people have to work in the sun and become dark. Culturally we consider fair skin people as a sign of wealth because they don't have to work in the sun.
I think as a nation Pakistanis are not overweight, yes maybe some people in the middle class and up are but as a nation we are petite. Most people are not as financially welkl off as well and therfore can't afford to sepnd on pricey meat and junk food. Infact in the west you will see more obese people and even those who are younger. In Pakistan most young girls are scary skinny. I do agree that fat children are considred better than skinny ones but everyone does an aboutturn for adults. At elats in teh west bigger folks embracetheir weighta nd are considred beautiful regardles size. I can't see that happening in Pakistan. True though that the trend is more towards being overweight towards middleage and Pakistanis are shorter in height generally so its shows more. But generally we are a thinner nation than most.
We all come from agricultural backgrounds. We all find roots to villages where it is the norm to have 2 litres of milk and 6 paraathay for breakfast. And we look at our villagefolk and look at them being so healthy and strong. So we the city dwellers also indulge ourselves in the same diet.
But we forget that those villagefolk get up at fajr and work their butts off in the fields all day till maghrib. The womenfolk too have hard labour jobs unless you're over 60. We city dwellers on the other hand have none of those hard labour activities in our lives. The women do very hard work around the house agreed, but none of that involves working in a field all day. The men sit in their offices on a desk all day. No exercise.
We city dwellers have brought upon us the worst of both worlds. A relaxed city lifestyle and a villager's diet.
But this is only one of the many factors i can think of.
