What do you find harder to cook, if you cook non-desi food at all? I don’t cook too much but I find Italian dishes (pasta/baked ziti/lasagna) verrrry easy to cook, as well as chinese. In fact, anything non-desi I dont think should be too hard and desi food, especially gosht/beef dishes to be much more difficult since they take much longer to cook properly.. ![]()

Re: Desi versus non-desi food
errrrr italian and mediterranean can take good preperation and time to cook as well. Most desi food can be very quick.
I think ppl are very familar with all desis dishes but not with all mediterreanean dishes and thus have the wrong concept.
Re: Desi versus non-desi food
Okay maybe basic pasta dishes are not too difficult, at least for me...it doesnt look too difficult and besides most of the boxes have recipes for different things written on em :p
Wat xactly are mediterranean dishes?
Re: Desi versus non-desi food
well... do u make your own pasta sauce? do you make your own pasta? :)
so eah if you have storemade pasta and jar sauce, its very quick, but its similar to using a pataks sauce jar and ready mae roti, versus making roti at home and mixing your own masalas and seasonings.
I mean what efforty does it take to boil ready made ravioliu and top it with soem sauce. Now if you were making your own pasta, your own fillimgs for the ravioli and then your own sauce, that takes time.
mediterranean dishes are errrr dishes that are enjoyed in the mediterranean region..
Re: Desi versus non-desi food
ohh i c, I never thought of it that way, typical home cooked desi food being from scratch..
i know medit dishes are dishes enjoyed in the medi region
but what dishes are theY?? Like..biryani is a south asian dish..lasagna is an italian dish..etc etc ![]()
Re: Desi versus non-desi food
it depends on what you are making....as Mr. F said...some cusines do require a lot of prep time. Once you get the hang of cooking a particular cuisine....it's all easy.
Re: Desi versus non-desi food
I m well known everywhere (even at GS) for my pasta ..when I first started to cook i used to have pasta almost every other day (cz its easy n take not much time to cook) but now that i have started to cook desi food as well i find it easy as well ..there r many dishes like biryani, plain rice ,kebabs, meatballs etc which r easy to cook n dosent take much time .
Re: Desi versus non-desi food
oops :halo:..sorry double post
…
Re: Desi versus non-desi food
making keema/kababs/and some chicken dishes don’t seem that difficult..or rotis for that matter..but the hardest thing abt rotis is getting them perfectly round ![]()
Re: Desi versus non-desi food
Maybe you should buy a pressur cooker for beef or goat meat. Lasanga takes a good one hour or more if you are making it from scratch.
Re: Desi versus non-desi food
Well yeah it takes time, but at least I know the basic steps, boil the lasagna, cooking the meat , etc etc..
id’ have no clue on where to start wit somethin like allooo gosht or pulao ![]()
Re: Desi versus non-desi food

Re: Desi versus non-desi food
ok for aloo gosh make masla with basic ingredients oil, onion, ginger garlic paste, tomato paste, salt, red peper, corriander powder, and curry powder. After making masal add gosht, bhonafy the gosht + potatoes for 2 mins, add water, close the pressuer, when pressure starts keep it on heat for 4 mins. Once pressure is released, open the cooker, sprinkle chat masla and add parsely, leave it on dum for 2 mins and your aloo gosht is ready.
for paloo make masala with onion, ginger galic paste, khara masala( cinamon stick, big ilaiche, longe, and cumin seeds), salt, and blk paper. After making the masala add meat (chick or goat/beef), bhonafy it for few mins, add water (if you are make 1 cup of rice add 2 cups of water). let the yakhani come out, add rice, when there is almost no water left, put it on dum for 5 mins and your paloo is ready.
Re: Desi versus non-desi food
for me i think to cook desi food is not an effort coz i cook it mostly every day and in non-desi i cook italian like pasta noodles like every one in starting it was quite an effort to cook any thing but now its very easy u just need to know the recipe and the ingredients coz some people ive seen they dont even know whats the ingredients are ..
Re: Desi versus non-desi food
making desi food is a routine now so it really does not matter.....a few things are really easy and quick to make....
since my husband is not a great fan of other cuisines so i really do not make them that much....whenever i do i think it takes much longer to me....first to gather all the stuff and preparing all and then cooking all....but i think it is a personal preference what u like to cook most.....
the only drawback with desi cooking which i find is the mess....like the dry atta mess while making rotis....and the greasy steam of masala bhooning and cooking.....requires hard cleaning...!
