So what are some ways to stop periods…If someone has had them for over a month?

Go to see a doctor. It could be an internal ovarian problem and they will prescribe some birth control pills to control your periods. See a doctor first before you try any home remedies.

Amenstruation - lack of menstruation - is usually benign.

Yes, very true lack of menstruation can cause cancer of the uterine lining. EVery cycle the first 14 days is when your estrogen is high and that is when the uterine lining is becoming thick and after ovulation your progesterone takes over and on usually cycle day 28-30 your lining sheds in the form of blood, which is your period. If you never get a period or very few in a year your lining has become very thick and that could lead to cancer. That is why your lining needs to shed every month.

Bleeding for more than 7 days signals a problem. It could be anything from endometriosis, fibroids, cysts, polyps. Anthing. Please have it checked out by a proper OB/GYN. Take this seriously. If the blood is reddish/pink in color, you are actually losing fresh blood which is also not a good sign. Please go see a doctor.

sometimes pregnany causes bleeding…even over a month. is it heavy? or light?
also what color? all this makes a big difference. u should get it checked out just to make sure its nothing serious.

Thanks Mahru. Note I said "usually benign", Paris. From what I understood, too much blood for much longer than 7 days and especially bleeding before you're due to bleed is more dangerous of a sign.
I don't think too much bleeding is a sign of pregnancy...you'd have to miss your period for that.

no bleeding is also a sign of pregnancy…or miscarriage.
sometimes when ur pregnant the embryo implants itself in the uterus..it can cause light bleeding. Usually for a day or 2…but some women bleed throughout their pregnancy kinda like a period…must suck eh?
and if u miscarry obviously u bleed…sometimes the bleeding can be prolonged for a few weeks. depends on how far along u were. If bleeding is continuous you may need a DNC.
of course bleeding can be signs of something far worse as well.

Oh I didn't have miscarriage in mind when I wrote that - I know you bleed then, but that's an anomaly to pregnancy, that's why I didn't mention it.
I didn't know you can lightly bleed for a day or two when the embryo implants itself. Cool. Thanks for the info!

the person i asked this question for has already seen a GYN twice and she was prescribed birth control pills which didn't work even after taking them for two weeks.....she is going to have an ultrasound soon.
oh and there is no question of being pregnant or anything.

The term "usually" denotes frequency, not severity.
So yes, cancer can result, but from what little I have read, it is not a frequent issue. At least, I hope not, otherwise I'm in big trouble, and plus all the doctors I have spoken to about my menstrual problems are all wrong, despite their years and years of advanced quality education.
