Desi society and ladies advisory

General perception among feminist and liberals of our society ist ladies have no say in matters surrounding them. They get married without consent. Their decisions are taken by males of the family.

But how come this line from Bulleh Shah contradicts such theories:

bulleh nu samjhawan aaiyan bhaina tey bharjai
bulleh nu samjhawan aaiyan bhaina tey bharjai
maan lay bulleya sada kahna chad dey pala arayian
aale nabi ulade ali nu tu kun likaa layia

Bulleh Shah (a Syed), when started following a non-Syed Arain murshid, not men but ladies of his family came to advise him.

What is your observation? Have ladies of our society got rights to have a say and they use this right frequently?

Re: Desi society and ladies advisory

I think they have rights in urban areas, different ball game in rural areas

Re: Desi society and ladies advisory

But Bulleh Shah was from rural area and that too around 3 centuries ago. Has the society changed in between or we got complaining souls?

Re: Desi society and ladies advisory

Have we got more backward with the passage of time? Or have we stayed more of the same?

Re: Desi society and ladies advisory

Women have a a lot ''influence''. Always had.

Re: Desi society and ladies advisory

I think there is no absolute conclusion to these questions, but as far as female rights are concerned, there is some improvement.

The question is whether the complaining tone of likes of Asima Jahangir is justified?

I can't understand the psyche behind 'Ham Toray Baabul, Khootay ki Gayeeya'.

Re: Desi society and ladies advisory

lols. Recently heard a dialogue that all good and bad (most of the bad) customs related to shadi-biyah were invented by ladies, as they got lot of time. When you got right to invent customs (followed by men as well), how come complaint of not having a say arises?
