Desi restaurants in Tokyo?

Recommendations please! Going there on business but will have a day for R&R - what’s best use of that day?

Re: Desi restaurants in Tokyo?

Tokyo is pretty big and has lots of good desi restaurants, including a Sri Lankan restaurants right outside the Shingiko train station. Where exactly will you be staying? Depending on that CatWoman should be able to help you.

Why eat desi food when you’re in a foreign country? Be adventurous and try some of the Japanese delicacies :yummy: If you don’t, you’ll be missing out.

I ate at a couple of Indian restaurants in Tokyo - overpriced and not worth it. One Pakistani restaurant I ate at was amazing, dont remember the name. However, you’ll find it easier to come across Turkish/Persian food and they do the whole naan kebaab and tikka stuff. Most of these restaurants will be concentrated in Tokyo central - Ikebukero, Shinjuku, Shibuya etc.

Sushi's awesome.

Re: Desi restaurants in Tokyo?

here's the thing - I don't like sushi in spite of all the wasabi in the planet. Ofcourse I do intend to try all the local delicacies the place has to offer but call me what you want, but I've gotta have a good desi meal once every other day atleast. Gotta have that spicy fullness, the twang the play and ounter-play of the elements of taste that exercise all parts of the pallet. Exept some really high priced and hard to get Nawlins food, I haven't come across any rivals to desi food (for dinner that is).

Re: Desi restaurants in Tokyo?

Dual Citizen, while I am not as addicted to Desi food as you probably are but I didn’t find the Japanese food anything extra ordinary and therefore had to find a desi place. For one, pork is their favorite food and unlike the US where nearly all restaurants have to have the ingredients fully listed on the menu, it is not the same policy over there. I tried a couple of Italian places but hated everything from pasta to pizza. Tried a couple of Western style places & they never asked me how I wanted my steak. And God forbid if you ask for ketchup.

Sushi is an acquired taste (which I haven’t acquired yet) and it is not filling at all. I eat sushi when I don’t want to eat much but still want to feel like I had an actual dinner or lunch.

Above is a picture of the local Desi fast food place I found when I was visiting there. I doubt it is chain kinda place and I don’t know their exact address. They had a bowl of curry/daal for 350 yen and then rice or nan for another 100 yen. If you walk around the downtown/midtown areas you will see servers waiting outside the restaurants to court you in. Beware! And remember refills aren’t free.

Re: Desi restaurants in Tokyo?

If you have a day to chill why waste it in a restaurant. I would rather explore as much of the city as possible.
