Thats an entirely different topic.its not south asian market we are talking about but the lack of minority ethnic products on retailer shelf in any country. If it is not a critical mass in a particular area, you will not see it.

ya you are right.

where i am living Walmart even introduced grocery section . ritenow the scenarios is “they gonna provide single thing under one roof :)”.

demographically speaking, yes there is a market of “shalwar kameez” but tough competition also exist in my area. so i cant neglect the fact that its “Walmart” (who so far only acknowledged this market, needs to bring back its lost customers)

walmart is a huge threat in groceries...every single grocery chain in the country is afraid of walmart. when you look at the percentage of CPG manufacturers products that go thru walmart rather than other channels you know why walmart makes them nervous.

but i think you would also like to hear from “this” customer who dont like to see tonz and tonz of choices. seriously sometimes i feel like i am some flea market, where notion of “exchange value”

dont forget Walmart's presence in india too. atleast Walmart do see and acknowledges potential in/of south asian market.

I dont like walmart either but it appears they have a winning formula for a large percentage of population.

as far as boss goes,he just told me about my bonus and raise.

So now you can get Shan Masala at Zellers and buy Shalwar Suits at Walmart.

Call it what you may - but niche marketing by retailers makes business sense.

You can get basmati rice pretty easily from most grocery stores, even the corner delis..
