Desi Pancake !

I was so surprised that in Islamabad some families make their paratha’s the way we do our pancakes but just with a few changes , but I loved the idea so much , sharing it with you all now.

One cup flour ( the usual aata ) , one egg, two tbs oil , milk half or one cup .. Mix it all into a fine paste medium consistency paste.
Now depending on what sort of mix you like , you can make it sweet or spicy , following are a few ideas.

Add in salt, chopped green chilli, zeera seeds, dhaniya

Add in maple syrup or honey and coarsely powdered nuts

Add in chopped onion, thinly chopped tomatoes or just tomato chutney with garlic

Add in onion powder, garlic powder and tomato sauce

Just mix what ever fancies you , in this mixture and then using a tablespoon, pour a bit of this mixture in the middle of a tawa or a frying pan and thin it using the back of the spoon..the more you thin it , the more crispier it will turn out. drop a few drops of oil on the side so it wont stick .. flip sides , cook some more and done.

This desi pancake /paratha saves me everytime i have a spice craving and takes 10 minutes to prepare !

Re: Desi Pancake !

Very interesting, I think I’ll try it on the weekend, thanks!

Re: Desi Pancake !

sounds more like a crepe no?

whats the texture like?

Re: Desi Pancake !

sounds like uttapam/appam from the dosa family…essentialy a crepe?

Re: Desi Pancake !

yes , more like a crepe , if you cook it thick it will look like a pancake. but if you thin it out by spreading it , that is essentially your crepe

They are called “Vaishlay” in Pushto. Super crispy & light. I think it’s a Pushtoon breakfast food item.

We always have em sweet. Make the batter like you described with some sugar in it & enjoy with Chai. Yum!
