How can anyone take desi movies seriously? 95 percent are compltete garbage (even that is a modest estimate). The worst American movie is still better than most desi movies. How can people enjoy such garbage and even have psuedo-intellectual discussions about them. I do not understand how anyone can desi movies seriously. They contribute nothing. I in fact believe they probabaly lower one’s IQ.
They have no intellectual stimulation at all. Honestly a desi movie requires absolutely no knowledge, and it is not even like they are funny. “Funny” desi movies are really not that funny at all.
And you might say Desi movies are to entertain. Entertainment does not have to be senseless mindnumbing cliches. Just about every desi movie is a copy of a copy of a copy of something that was barely OK. The characters are one dimensional. The plots are senselss and stupid. The music is not even good. Originality is something these films do not have. If these films are not funny, nor do they challange the viewer and make him or her think what is the point? Perhaps we should divorce ourselves from such immature, trivial baloney, and instead focuse our efforts on making serious thought provoking pieces of film. I know there are talented creative desi directors and screenwriters, but alas there talent will very rarely come into the spotlight. I know there are a few works that are actually like this, but when you look at the comparison its something like 800 crappy typcial desi movies for every one genuine original film.

Hollywood also has its fair share of garbage; I'm sure you have ignored that before starting this cliche of a thread. Many of the recent Indian movies have been phenomenal. You just have to be careful in what you pick to watch, shmuck.

Clever reply... Many? How many Hollywood movies are good in comparison to Desi movies... really? If by many you mean less than 20 that is nothing. Yeah hollywood has garbage, but for every few bad movies there is one good one; for every hundred desi movies one just maybe one is good. I am sorry if I am shattering your little world by asking you to take your time and watch something thought provoking, but I guess that is beyond your mental capabilities.

Talking about cliches, that thing about Hollywod-having-its-fair-share-of-garbage is as cliched as it gets. Almost an auto-generated response which is regurgitated with robotic perfection by all the crappo-philes which haunt these boards. Atleast their “garbage” doesn’t have butt-shaking routines amidst battle sequences

*You are living in the past. Many Indian movies have been released in the recent past that do not contain that garbage. Atleast the Indian film industry is trying. When I look at our Pakistani film industry, I think of shedding tears and pulling my hair out.

I thought desis were good at math. Compare the numbers there are many many many more good hollywood movies in proportion to the crappy ones. Now compare bollywood. Lets say I were to fill one hat with hollywood movies and another with Bollywood. It would talk 2 or four pulls at random to find a movie thats good (at the most extreme perhaps 6.) Now bollywood would take more than a hundred attempts before anyone can find anything somewhat decent. For every "good" desi movie there are at least a hundred hollywood movies. I would say at the most in the history of desi cinema there are no more than 100 or 150 good movies (and that is a huge stretch).

For an average movie watcher, the above fits very well. Show me some statistics from IMDB or some other reliable source that would prove your point. Firstly, you are arguing on a very subjective matter here. Secondly, your bias against Indian movies is quite clear when you use fancy numbers to prove that every Indian movie is garbage. No point arguing until you can prove there are many more "Truck Driver Suraj"s than "Gigli"s

Ok....first things first...I am an INDIAN....though not really a big fan of Hindi Movies. Nevertheless, I agree with game that Indian movie-makers are beginning to charter new territories.....I am seeing more and more movies coming out that have story lines different from the usual boy-meets-girl routine. That said, I did not mean to imply that all the past movies were garbage....there have been some very good hindi movies made in the past too but in my opinion they were a small percentage of the total number of movies made.
