Desi Interracial Relationships

I’ll start by saying that an interracial relationship with a Desi is a very hard relationship to have in the US. Unlike any other cultures, we tend have our own identity. For a white person to have a relationship with a black person in my opinion is easier because they come from the same culture, an american culture. In the UK, Desi’s have been there for generations but our culture is more widely accepted, so it is not hard for someone to know more about the culture. If someone who is not Desi in the US is open and learn about Desi culture then I can see it work out.

Ok, its been working for over 12 plus years.......
Any relationship is hard, it does not matter if its between desi & white or desi 7 desi.

Re: Desi Interracial Relationships

^ I agree. And it takes willingness on the part of both parties to understand one another. Why should only the non-desi compromise.

A lot of desi elders expect that when a non-desi marries a desi, the non-desi should basically "become pakistani" and give up her own traditions, ways of doing things, and even dress. A little more tolerance would work wonders.

Our Prophet (pbuh) encouraged mixed marriages between tribes and cultures. Who are we to think we know better, or that our particular culture is more special.

Re: Desi Interracial Relationships

you mean like every other culture that has its own identity?

I think that one of the reasons that interracial relationships exist to begin with is that one doesn't just fall for the personality of the person but for their way of doing things etc, and culture determines that. So you fall for the culture as well as the person.
