Because they are not supposed to be hitting. The only option for them as per Quran hadees and sunnah is to go for an arranged marriage. They are not supposed to go out and start an affair. Quran orders men and women to lower their gaze while out in the public. But with so much enlightenment in the educated boys and girls how is it possible ? The educated boys and girls refuse to marry someone they do not know. They want to interact, talk and get to know the person before they marry someone. On the contrary we find so many ahadees emphasizing to marry a women for her youth and beauty. There are some ahadees which tell you to look for the morals of the person you wish to marry. How would you decide on the beauty or morals of someone if you do not get to know the person ?
P.S.:I did not quote Quran and those ahadees because it is not a scholarly discussion about those verses and ahadees. If you are interested to know which ones go open the books please.

i agree..its has nothing 2 do with chugal khori..if u want 2 know about some1 u r obviously gogin 2 ask around..mayb 1 person can lie but not a whole bunch! if a couple ppl are all saying the same thing then more its more likely that they r right.the candidate is not exactly going 2 b very forthrite and candid about his negative traits/side now is he?.. hes just going 2 paint a peaches n cream picture of himself in front of u.

Hmm. Well, yes it is hard for someone to know about somebody unless they met them first, and I think we are allowed to do that for the purpose of marriage. We are also expected to rely on the reputation of the person in their community.
Of course it is very hard to stick to those requirements in this day and age. In some families it still happens.
so ull even marry say for example a women beater..if u met him a couple of times..n he was nice 2 u..u dont talk 2 anybody about his character..bcs as u said/agree that u dont want 2 make ur big life decision based on other ppl’s views..so uu never find out about his abusiveness until after ur married?..thats a bit ignorant..and dangerous ..isnt it?

on a serious note, judging morals, ethics, character strength of a woman, her intelligence, her concerns and her ideals in life as well as her appearance are all attributes that are hidden in an arranged marriage especially if the man is unable to speak / converse with her.
