Desi functions and timings...

Re: Desi functions and timings...

X2, I am thinking that too i.e attended it as per my clock instead of theirs....

Reha, not really but 3 hours delay is just too much. No reason can justify the arrieval of host at the time which was mentioned as "end time" on card !!!!!

Re: Desi functions and timings...

This.

I've seen it work when it comes to Eid salat, where we had it scheduled for 8AM. Most people thought it would be 8AM DST and ended up missing it. After that, I've generally seen people come on time.

Re: Desi functions and timings...

I dont accept desi dawats anymore.

Very reluctantly we accepted a brunch offer on Saturday. Hosts invited 3 families at 11:30. We were dot on time. Last family showed up at 1:30 PM and the wife had the guts of throwing guilt trap at my wife of showing up on time.

Re: Desi functions and timings...

Everyone knows that if you want people to show up to your party at 7, you tell them it starts at 4. I thought this was a universal desi rule.

Forget starting the program at time, they serve food at like midnight. I try to eat before I go because these people are ridic!!!

Re: Desi functions and timings...

It is too much, really. I just don't see this changing because desi people don't value time. Its something I have seen so much I have accepted it. When I am doing hair and makeup appointments for a bride...I am on time because I don't want to rush. However, I still on average wait for an hour before I can start because no one's there.

I don't know what it is. Maybe they leave too much to be done on the day of the wedding/function and that sets them back a bit. Whatever it is, a 3 hour delay in unacceptable.

Re: Desi functions and timings...

Being a Hindu has its advantage - muhoortam. Marriage has to be done only in this window of time.

Re: Desi functions and timings...

^ one hindu wedding that I was invited to had a mahoorat of 4:45 am.
needless to say I didn't attend the ceremony......only the reception that afternoon.

but yeah.....it is getting a bit tedious to deal with this DST issue.
when we show up on time everyone else is late.....when we accommodate for DST we end up being late.

the best approach is perhaps to give the folks a call or contact someone else you know that is attending and ask for an update then plan accordingly......

ultimately you have to live by the time you have got as X2 says.

Re: Desi functions and timings...

D6C, do you live in Canada?

Re: Desi functions and timings...

i seriously find it so rude when people are late!

Desi functions and timings...

Hindu ceremonies start in the fot do when i was invited for the wedding at 8 am, I showed up at 8:30ish n I got the death of stare from my dear bride friend. My answer later was hey I am Pakistani!!! She actually understood!! Yes I know.. Quom hi kharab hai ya shayad main :(

Re: Desi functions and timings...

Nahin - only for marriage and religious ceremonies we are bound to be on time. Otherwise we Hindus probably are as late as folks from other kaums!
