Desi clothes in the UK

I like wearing desi clothes but up until now I have left it to other family members to buy choose them for me.

If like to expand my wardrobe a bit but would like clothes that don’t look out of place in the uk. What types of style are in fashion at the mo? Or are there fusion styles?

I’ve been wearing long kameez/kurtas with leggings for a while (partly because I was pregnant and nothing else would fit

All of my post didn't post argh!
Anyone have suggestions? Tips?

Re: Desi clothes in the UK

I've seen a lot of people wear simple, bright colours long kameezes/kurtas for everyday looks.

It really depends what you like, some people go for the fusion styles (maxi dresses, jump suits, english-style anarkalis etc) and some people prefer traditional or more pakistani styles (long kameezes, simple lenghas, etc).

Oh, and it depends if you want it for more informal use (like wearing it every day or at someone's house) or more dressed up occaisions like weddings.

My advise would be to go to the local shops and see what's there, it will give a good idea of what you like too. Start off with classic pieces that you can dress up or down so that you don't feel like it's too much.

What part of the UK are you in?

https://hennamehndi.co.uk/ have lovely stuff you can order online, or go visit them on Green Street in London (tube station Upton Park)

Mad Hatter: who wears casual lehengas? I mean seriously - I can’t imagine one. Pictures?

Re: Desi clothes in the UK

Well where I live in the UK, most people wear the long kameez with either leggings, skinny jeans or those churi daar trouser types. I personally like the simple printed stuff, nothing too ott but it really depends on what type you like.

And those don't really look outta place here.

Re: Desi clothes in the UK

Admittedly I haven’t seen many, but I’ve seen some plain ones or printed ones at dholkis or at people’s houses. Plus some people like to go overboard and go all shaadi-fied

Re: Desi clothes in the UK

anybody been to khaadi in shepherd's bush westfield? i'm not sure if it's just me (i have no idea how much a suit should cost) but even a simple kameez costs so much!

Re: Desi clothes in the UK

expect good material clothes to be between 30 - 60 for handmade, non designer, 40 - 100 for semi-designer and 65 - 250 for designer - shirts ... all figures in pounds. Haute Couter can be any price about 200 - 1000+

Aaliyah: i'm here in islamabad at the mo and the fashion in islamabad is still very much Kurtas and leggings. I've seen some shorter shirts in the shops but not many people actually wearing them. The prices for longer shirts in good shops like khaadi range between 3500-6000 but in the Westfield khaadi i'd imagine they're double
