Desi birthday parties!

Re: Desi birthday parties!

The goody bags for the kids had snowflakes on them. They were filled with snowman pencils, snowman notepad, snowflake yoyo, and of course lots of candy :D.

If you're in the US and planning a theme thing, check out Oriental Trading Company's website. It's kind of awesome.

Re: Desi birthday parties!

I would refuse to go to a bday party which will not have paya, nihari , biryani , kheer , ras mala-e . :snooty:
Do not forget your roots and food you fobs and ABCDs. :naraz:

Re: Desi birthday parties!

A birthday is a birthday for a desi or non-desi and it should not matter how one celebrates it! And i dont like birthday parties without ras malai :snooty:

:hehe:

Re: Desi birthday parties!

I don't mind what people serve, but I believe that most or at least some of the food should be kid friendly

Also all you really need to make a birthday fun is a bounce house............for the kids.........and well adults too

Re: Desi birthday parties!

sahar many congrts on enaya’s bday hugs ur cake bought a big smile on my face seeing the name… my daughter’s bday is 4 mnths from now…

Re: Desi birthday parties!

The cake looks just too cute Sahar.

My daughter's first birthday is coming in 3 months & although I have decided the menu already (Chinese) I might change it to your typical Desi Nehari wala menu just so I can fit everything in my budget.

I have a list of things & some of them I am not willing to compromise on. Anyways.

Biggest reason Desi people do what you mention they do is because of course besides the fact that its a "bahaana" to get everyone together. Nehari & Paye cost less. Try feeding the same number of people a pan of Chicken Qorma or some other dry dish versus Nehari & Paye & you'll know why :D Also I have come across many people especially men who seem to only like Desi food. So until unless you have goras or some other people on the birthday party you know you will be pleasing everyone by serving Desi food.

I think it depends on many factors. With me I wanted to do an Aqeeqa party but we ended up doing the Aqeeqa before without throwing a party so call it weird but we are calling it her Aqeeqa and first birthday party. Hubby has given me a budget but while remaining in that range I am planning to go all out & make sure that no one invited feels the way you described in the start of this thread.

Our theme is Chocolate pink polka dots. I'll most probably get a smash cake for Ibtehal. Her Phoppo is getting a Desi outfit made for her but I am also gonna get a dress & I have found this cute little onesie with frills that says 1(for smash cake time)

I might either do a Chocolate bar or a Dessert bar and instead of getting one huge cake just get mini cup cakes.

Also either favors for every one or depending on the venue a bouncy slide or castle.

A slideshow of her videos & pictures from her first year.

So many other things but I'll have to make a separate thread for that. Which I most probably will in a couple of days to play with more ideas.

Ours is going to be a day time event. I am going to plan it around her nap times so hopefully she won't be fussy that day. I think while planning 1st birthday parties there are many things that need to be looked at. If my house was big enough to host 75 people I would have actually done it at home just to make sure that the birthday baby is at ease as well.
