if u were to describe any colour ( black, blue, purple, gold, silver ) to a blind man , how would u do it?..
Re: describing colours to a blind person..
You could only describe it scientifically.
Re: describing colours to a blind person..
You could describe it using other senses,
Re: describing colours to a blind person..
nah, cant do that.
The mind of the person is unable to generate the colour, therefore to him/her the colour does not exist. Therefore there is NO way to describe the colour.
Re: describing colours to a blind person..
You can describe at least black. Black is not exactly a color, it is more like lack of any color or lack of any reflection of light. All a blind person 'sees' is black.
Re: describing colours to a blind person..
what senses?..
Re: describing colours to a blind person..
Elementary school physics bro. Light is basically a transferring longitudinal wave of energy. The different colours, the spectrum, is made up of a range of wavelengths ranging from longest of red to shortest of purple which is visible to humans. :D
Re: describing colours to a blind person..
^ :k:
but atleast he/she is unable to produce a visual.
– Black is not a colour.
Re: describing colours to a blind person..
A poet/artist is always using colours to convey moods. You do the opposite. itsme01, it is very possible. very much like describing emotion to someone autistic.
Re: describing colours to a blind person..
Umm i dont know..it can b very hard...blind ppl can never understand color cuz they dont know that there is a thing like a "color"..
I wonder what kinda images they see in their minds? i dont think they can even c black or white!
Re: describing colours to a blind person..
well you could to those who became blind as opposed to those born totally blind.
This is a great question and thread. MY hats off to you FFire!
I do think it is possible to describe color to the blind by mathematical and physical properties. They will comprehend it in a way different from others.
Re: describing colours to a blind person..
Make a bigger question out of it. How do you describe "seeing" to a blind person?
Re: describing colours to a blind person..
:k:
Well, i don’t think u can actually ‘describe colors’ to a blind person…
if u could, we can’t tell how they perceive colors… so we can only try a few things…Now, if the person turned blind after some incident, then he/she can understand colors by mere references
i will add another question…
can someone be blind from birth or does it just happen at certain age or thru an incident ?
Re: describing colours to a blind person..
Oh you can definately be blind by birth. I remember if the mother has a certain disease(s) (i think it was rubella) during child birth, then the pathogen infects the baby's eyes leading to blindness. Blindness can be caused by mutation and that is predetermined before birth. Other than that, uncontrolled diabetes, syphillis and AIDS can all lead to blindness.
(Im just too smart... :D)
Re: describing colours to a blind person..
autistic and blind are totally different situations.
If autistic child is developmentaly delayed they usually have issues such as focus, concentration, and many more. Autistic kid can get treated as time goes by.
for a blind person nothing is white everything is black. They can only feel it or smell it. Unfortunately you cannot feel or smell color.
My sister is learning sign language sometimes she goes and does observations on deaf people becoming speech pathologist inshallah]. She tell sme when she comes back how difficult it is when you have to describe something to a Deaf or deaf. I can't imagine how must it feels for that person who is blind.
Gosh this reminds me.. i complain alot i have so much to Thank Allah for... :~)
Re: describing colours to a blind person..
nia, autistic people dont have the same range of emotions that "normal" poeple do. They have to have the feelings explained so that they can identify them. The analogy was made in the vein of describing somthing that an individual is literally incapable of experiencing.
Re: describing colours to a blind person..
my question is for the people who are born blind.....how can u exactly describe them colors.... and which color would u think will be easy to describe them by giving them examples/description.... if u say red .... give ur reason why?....if u say green....give reasons .....or any other color......give some sort of explanation on how u can describe them the choosen color of urs?
Re: describing colours to a blind person..
FF, like its been said above: you can describe the colour scientifically, However that Description will not enable the person to visualise the colour - Because s/he mind is unable to picture colour.
Re: describing colours to a blind person..
I've heard that they use heat. Blue is cold Read is Hot. But I don't know how well that would work. What do you think a blind persons dreams would be like?
How would you describe smell to someone who doesn't have the sense (Such as me)? People often used taste but it doesn't quite convey the message.
