descendents of the prophet

are they all through hazrat Fatima? or there are others as well?

Thanks

Sayyads, i.e. direct decendents of the Prophet are through Hazrat Fatima. Others types include Hashemites, from the Prophet's family such as that of the King of Jordan or Qurayshis from the same clan as the Prophet. Thats as much as I know but I would love to hear if anyone has more information.

so the prophet had no other kids who had kids?

he had other daughters but none of them had any children who survived. thats what I just found out. so I guess i dont need the answer anymore :)

Not as far as I know.

His (pbuh) sons died in infancy. And narrations differ whether he did have any other daughters. Some names have been given but again narrations differ as to whether they were Hazrat Khadija's daughter/s from a previous marriage or her adopted daughter/s. Like Zaid was the adopted son of the Prophet. Information about Hazrat Fatima is unanimous, Sunni and Shia alike.

Did'nt one of his other daughters marry hazrat ali after hazrat fatima'd death?

Um, which one? :)

dunno, i am asking. if i knew i would not be asking

I honestly don't know. I did mention I don't think the Prophet himself had any other daughters so no I don't think there could be one who Hazrat Ali is supposed to have married. I hope someone can shed some light on this like give specific names.

Khadijah (ra) and Muhammad SAW were the parents of six children - four daughters and two sons. His first son Qasim died at the age of two. He was nicknamed Abul Qasim, meaning the father of Qasim. His second son Abdullah died in infancy. Abdullah was also called affectionately as ‘Tayyab’ and ‘Tahir’ because he was born after Muhammad’s prophethood. The four daughters were: Zainab (ra), Ruqayyah (ra), Umm Kulthum (ra), and Fatimah (ra).

Thanks sholay. Which daughter married Hazrat Ali after Fatima's(sa) death? And did the other daughters have any children?

Rhia no other daughters had children that survived. from what I read Hazrat Zainab married Hazrat Ali after hazrat Fatima's death.

I will check it again and find a link later.

Actually it was Hazrat Fatima's wasihat that Hazrat Ali marry Hazrat Zainab's daughter Syeda Imama bint-e-Abi AlAas. Thus after her death, Hazrat Ali married her but they never had any children.

Pir in the 9th Century a breakaway group of descendants of Fatima (peace be upon her) (early Shia's), rebelled against the Abbasaid Khalifah and took over Egypt, the dynasty they established is known in history as the "Fatmids".

A large number of the Prophets descendants were massacred after Karbala in the revolt in Mecca and Medina. I don't think Shia's properly acknowledge that event, nor do Sunnis realise the brutality of what happened. The Ka'bah was burnt down by Yazid's Army and countless Sahaba and immediate family of the Prophet were killed.

Anyway I am going off in a tangent so I'll stop here.

Zakk, Shias do acknowledge that fact because they (Sayyads) were mostly at the recieving end of it. I wrote some of that history (very briefly) in here, take a look:

Thanks all.

Jal_Pari, can you provide a reference please?

Zakk

thanks for the info, I am aware of the points you made. no one thinks that yazid was a good guy. Other people were also martyred in past, Hazrat Hassan and Hazrat Osman to name 2 by other idiots liek Yazid.

I disagree. Alot of ppl do. I came from the middle east. I have been taught Yazid came out clean after doing all the damage. The picture I got was Yazid became a "good guy". Whats more sickening is they contantly gave respect to Muwaiyah by calling him Hazrat and (RA)!..
I wonder why? you figure.. :)

Some people don't disrespect him, because it is upto Allah Ta'llah, as to what will be his destiny, and secondly, he was a katib-e-wahi (the father, not the son).

The same thought process is that, if someone was not cursed or bad-mouthed by the Prophet (Sallalah o Alaihai Wassalam), then we should also not curse him/her either. Their matter is in the hands of Allah, who is All Knowing, and He alone knows whats in their hearts.

We should all keep a clean heart, a clean tongue and earn our own good deeds, instead of spending our time cursing people who are long dead. They are responsible for their deeds on the Day of Judgement and we are responsible for ours.

If someone honestly believes, cursing a dead man, earns him good deeds, then by all means, collect good deeds like this.

Nobody is asking or encouraging to "disrespect him". But you don't go to an extent of venerating someone who doesnt have any merit based on the facts . If you read the history carefully you will know what Muawiyah and Yzaid were all about.

You are right , cursing is wrong but saying Hazrat and Ra to these tyrants is also not right.

Rest Allah knows the best :)
