Depression

Re: Depression

Inspiron, theres only so much I could do alone to help her. Quite frankly, I cant afford it.

Re: Depression

Which country are you in?

Is there a way to get it free? through college/uni? Universites here provide free mental health services maybe its the same where you are?

I can recommend a good DIY CBT book?

Re: Depression

May be but she is getting better now after doing lot of effort. She don't like to take medications.

Re: Depression

medications are only a very very small part of treating mental health disorders.

The main thing people require is therapy, support and education in my opinion. Glad to hear she is better.

Re: Depression

She already sees a college counselor once a week and shes been a tremendous help to her. Thanks for the recommendation, will definitely look into it :k:

Sorry UZ, didnt mean to hijack ur thread :sid:

Re: Depression

It's ok sana you can hijack it.

Re: Depression

Anti depressants did not work for me, the short time I tried Effexor, it made me physically ill and I gained so much weight I refused to try anything else. Therapy and finding a purpose (my job and volunteer work) have been my saving grace. Acupuncture and exercise (dance!) have also helped me tone down my anger, relax and unwind. It’s a lifelong work in progress.

Re: Depression

there's a difference between someone with clinical depression and someone who just likes to whine and sit around and complain and act like everyone's against them.

and sometimes, you really don't know what's going on with your own life. :)

Re: Depression

That's a pretty ignorant way to look at it. Most here have explained it in a much better way than I can...

You wouldn't tell someone with cancer or any other physical sickness to "get over it."....it's the same with mental illness and disorders.

.

Re: Depression

Major Depression is not in people's control. It is a psychiatric disorder.

I think it is very shallow of you if you blame ppl for depression. its not their fault. Its the fault of their upbringing, their society, their genes, their neurotransmitter imbalance etc. You cant blame ppl for being depressed.

Re: Depression

I think we should have a poll , in which we can ask people that ' having a GS profile/ other social networks has increased or decreased the stress/depression in your life '...

from last 15 years or so , it worked both ways for me !

P.s : note to me self - write a blog entry about it !

Re: Depression

UZ, I feel like depression has always been around. It simply wasn't detected before and dismissed.

Pretty much.
