Just yesterday, we were at a conference and sure enough everyone was nervous about their presentations, including me. The girl sitting beside me, however, was so nervous that she had problems breathing. She had actually brought an inhaler with her which she used twice!
At first I was like oh god, ab itni bhi scary baat nahin hai present karna and she should be used to presenting by now. But you have to understand people can't always control the anxiety.
Having faith in Allah swt doesn't mean you can't feel bad when things keep getting worse for you. As long as you keep up the prayers, the efforts, and don't give up, it's okay to cry a little at night just because you feel like it.
From 2003-2008 I went through 2 rounds of IVF (which was preceeded by multiple miscarriages and 2 surgeries) gave birth to 3 children (including twins) had a complete hysterectomy, saw both parents diagnosed with end stage cancer within 6 months of eachother and die within the same 30 days. Stress, both physical and mental, hormonal imbalances and tragedies all factored into my "depression"...most people do not go through in their entire lives what I did in that short span...so is that "depression" not justified? Diet, exercise, and lots and lots of therapy have helped tremendously.
Unless you go through "depression", however mild or severe, it's hard to understand "why". There are no clear cut answers. I am by all accounts a very strong person, my doctors and therapist will be the first tell you that most people would have been suicidal.
Just like Allah SWT gives us strength, he also gives us weakness. Not all people are the same, we all have our own ways of dealing with things, and I don't think it's fair to dismiss depression as bahaanay or laziness. And you can't just "pray" everything away.
Go and do some volunteer work in a psychiatric department.
Have you ever met a woman who was abused by her father and uncles sexually since she was 2 years old till the age of 16 and who ran away from home to escape it but ended up homeless.
Meet children whose parents died in horrible ways infront of their own eyes when they were 6 years old.

sorry but as per my limited knowledge the anxiety (nervousness) and depression disorder are not the same.
Depression leads to emotions such as hopelessness, despair and anger. However anxiety disorder leads to emotions such as fear and panic etc..

Medically anxiety and depression are very very closely linked and patients often have both or one leads to another or tranforms into another.
Actually Sarmad the SAME medication e.g. SSRI's are used to treat - Depression, Anxiety Disorders and Eating disorders - just one example so they are even linked in their management.
Agree with Khatti...also we can't shut someone up by saying your problems or your grief is nothing in comparison to mine. Some people have more and some have less pain/grief threshold.
they are may be interconnected but for sure they are not the same and treated differently.
Like I mentioned, my sister has all these 3, Depression led to OCD and OCD is basically anxiety. So a combination of counseling and medication is what shes having to treat all the symptoms.

khatti you are a strong person with lots and lots of faith, that's why you handled your situation very well. I am talking about people who got depressed with mild tensions. For example , my friend she was stay at home mom and she got depressed so much that she was suicidal. And her husband is not a problem, it's just children, that made her depressed.
Well I think her depression is way better than before..I dont find her crying at 3 in the morning anymore.. its OCD +phobias thats killing me .. believe me itsss so seveerrre I feeel like strangling her sometimes
