Has anyone been through this? How did you handle it?
Re: Depression…away from pets
like any breakup…its gotta be cold turkey! ;(
I’m reminded of all my dear pets now. for some reason, they all just left me. i swear was kind to them. ![]()
Re: Depression…away from pets
I never thought I’d be emotionally attached to a bunch of animals so much.
Re: Depression…away from pets
I’m not allowed pets anymore unfortunately. Had a few goldfish a few years ago but i left the tank in front of the window in summertime with blazing sun and they sorta kinda… roasted…? ![]()
But im not really a pet person. Having a cat in the house is out of the question. So i wouldn’t know.
Re: Depression…away from pets
First parrot flew away and the other one died and I cried over it for long .I was 9 or 10 at that time. Never had the desire to keep pets after that. They eventually die (if they haven’t left already).
Re: Depression…away from pets
People think it’s easy to raise goldfish but it can be quite tricky. You have to very careful about the amount of food, the temperature, and the chlorine content in water etc.
I had dogs, cats, hamsters, rabbits, hares, chicks, fish at different times in my life…never kept birds and lizards though. How about birds? Are you allowed birds? Like little canaries?
Re: Depression…away from pets
I had 3/4 rabbits couple years back. They left their owners home few doors down and set up camp in my garden. They technically were my pets I guess. Didn’t get attached to them as much as annoyed as they kept eating everything. Then one day they were gone. I think it was the fox. Good riddance lol.
Re: Depression…away from pets
I had the same mind for a long time after my dog was given away…but these three kittens I have who are currently in lodging … They were kinda rescued. I didn’t buy them or anything. But you know what, they have changed me as a person.
Re: Depression…away from pets
Rabbits are cute but they don’t get attached to you like dogs and cats. May be that’s why you didn’t feel any remorse.
Re: Depression…away from pets
was gonna get some chickens for my garden last year. However, a friend who already has them told me how it smells and stuff. was put right off.
as for other pets, i’m not really a fan of keeping any tbh. I’d be too scared with a bird… even in a cage as i would feel it would open the cage and fly around. Also i find cages cruel.
Re: Depression…away from pets
That, and they weren’t mine to begin with lol.
Btw, how did you keep a dog, aren’t all asians like terrified of dogs? Saw an asian guy today walking towards a old woman and her dog. Should have seen how he retracted his footsteps and went around them
Re: Depression…away from pets
Your friend is quite right about the smell of chicken pooh. It’s horrible…Unless you have a very big garden where you can set up a chicken coop with mulsh on the ground.
And yeah cages are cruel. ![]()
Re: Depression…away from pets
It was during my childhood days…in a rural area in Pakistan…even to this day it is still quite common to keep dogs for safety reasons. That Asian guy you saw must have been a city dweller.
Re: Depression…away from pets
My dad’s family grew up with dogs.. we have a fondness for them..
You can have the most amazing bond with a dog.. Mine comes running over to comfort me if he notices tears, he puts his paws up to my face like a person would..
Can’t imagine not having him around ![]()
Re: Depression…away from pets
I guess so, but with my dad being more on the pessimistic side and reading all the horror stories where ‘dog bites/eats child’ this is a big no
Re: Depression…away from pets
^Everyone has their own preferences.. My mum isn’t personally keen on them either..
Re: Depression…away from pets
So many cats have died and I was always cold hearted about it. I had such a oh well it was their time to die when I was 7.
Re: Depression…away from pets
Only birds & fishes allowed in our house. Once all of us got very attached with my mom’s parrot because of the peculiar activities it performed and voices he made. We had to give it away and for many years until recently, I used to see it in my dreams and wake up feeling sad for not having it around. Personally, I would love to keep cats, dogs, horses and ducks.
Re: Depression…away from pets
^I’d love horses if we had more space.. My mum + dad’s has a river the other side of the fence and lots of greenery around so they often get ducks, geese, foxes etc. We always had to keep an eye when the dog was out to make sure he didn’t get massacred..
