Deoband fatwa: It’s illegal for women to work, support family
Darul Uloom Deoband, the self-appointed guardian for Indian Muslims, in a Talibanesque fatwa that reeked of tribal patriarchy, has decreed that it is “haram” and illegal according to the Sharia for a family to accept a woman’s earnings. Clerics at the largest Sunni Muslim seminary after Cairo’s Al-Azhar said the decree flowed from the fact that the Sharia prohibited proximity of men and women in the workplace.
“It is unlawful (under the Sharia law) for Muslim women to work in the government or private sector where men and women work together and women have to talk with men frankly and without a veil,” said the fatwa issued by a bench of three clerics. The decree was issued over the weekend, but became public late on Monday, seminary sources said.
It looks there are two parts of this fitwa. The first part is above where i believe there is minor error/mistake in the translation from arabic/hindi/urdu to english the word ‘accept’ should be replaced/read with **‘demand’. **
It is not a liability on women to be a bread winner for a family, but if she happily wants to earn living or do business and shower her family with gifts and resources then it is perfectly acceptable.
**If these clerics persist on the same wording used there and declare the ‘acceptance’ unlawfull , haram according to Islamic sharia then I would not be hesitated for second to slap them on their face and quote the example of Holy prophet (pbuh) doing the same ( accepting income from her wife’s business) during his married life with Hazrat Khatija, **
This second part is also important. It is necessary to cleanse ladies staff from working in govt security forces once and for all.
It create hinderance for die-hard follower women of Rocket Islam to board on a PIA plane bound to Washington DC and do some firework at airport. It is essential to stop women working in Pakistan police so that no man could dare to check fully loaded and fully covered women comming from Dir at any check post and boarding a flight without any inspection of her body. Only that way we will teach a lesson to that Idiot Faisal Shahzad what is called
’ *A Job well done *!’ :k:
That fatwa is important and authorities should pay some heed.
The fatwa seems to be based on the condition that women can't have close contact with na mahram, so it should exclude all those women who make earnings without close contact.
So the article is misleading there anyway.
Furthermore, it seems like it is specific to India, because there the women are 'not allowed' to wear a veil in the public sector. So really, if India allows Muslim women to wear a veil in the public sector, then the fatwa is void and women can continue earning money. According to the merit of the article.

That is absolutely false. Women in India can wear veil/burka anywhere they want. India has All India Muslim personal law Board under Indian Constitution, that gives freedom to muslims to practise according to Shariat.
Deoband has clearly stated today, no fatwa has been issued.... they had only given an opinion based on Sharia that women need to be properly covered in government and private offices.
