Dentist visit while fasting

I need to see a dentist during Ramadan but I do not know if I will need any treatment at my first appointment.

Should I fast on that day and break it if necessary?

1- You may fast on that day but donot go under any treatment which will void ur fasting. You may request for another appointment after ramadhan.
2- You may not fast on that day and make this fast on any other day i.e. after eid.

Sincere advice: Go for option 1 :)

Call the dentist and ask him exactly what needs to be done. If it is a simple cavity check/Xray and/or visual exam, then it should be ok.

I will follow option 2 because I cn't delay it any more as I am not going to visit my local dentist ,I am going to the dental hospital. For that, I had to wait for more than 2 months.Later, my uni 'll open and I 'll find it hard to go,now I am on holidays, I can go ,miss the fast and perform it after eid.

They sent me the letter , it says about the x-rays.

for x-rays, your fast is not going to break.

Even if you get a simple filling done...i guess it won't make your fasting invalid.If you got pain and all...do visit(they'll probably prescribe some antibiotics/Painkillers for a week or so). Otherwise delay it:)

While filling, the doc place a small pipe from where the drops of water goes into the mouth. This will void the fast.

it's a suction tip...used for sucking away all the water coming in from the handpiece used for the filling/excess salive.So no water ends up going down your throat...but yes..it's better to avoid dental procedures during fasting.

I think u r right :k: when I went for filling, the Doc inserted a suction tip in my mouth whereas i felt like some cold drops of water gone inside me through throat as i they placed something on my jaw to keep my mouth remain open. I was in this condition for atleast an hour. :slight_smile:

Yupe better to avoid such procedure but I think its oky with x-ray in case of OP.

as long as you do NOT swallow water during the procedure, you are ok to fast. if he prescribes medication then break the fast. if you are in pain already, you shouldn't fast because you may need to take pain killers. :)

I agree but not when a person is fully aware that he or she will be going under medical treatment even though he or she fast. :slight_smile:

depends…if i do NOT expect a probing procedure and/or do NOT have emergency then it’s understandable to fast. If you are NOT in pain and do NOT need medications you can keep the fast until such situation arise.

No, I am not in pain , not taking any painkillers, it’s just I have to go for the check up. I have decided to fast in the morning, my appointment is in the afternoon, I 'll see what goes on there. Thanks for the answers. :k:
