Dengue Fever & Papaya Leaves

Hello docs and members..

As Lahore is bearing the full strength of dengue fever, everyone is advised to take precautions to avoid contracting the virus.

However, there were quite a few cases of people getting better from papaya leaves extract.

Do you know it to be true? Or is it just a theory?

Re: Dengue Fever & Papaya Leaves

hmm thats interesting. I just quickly looked it up and it seems to have antioxidants and some research (don't know how legitimate it is) that it has immune enhancing affects. Since Dengue fever is a virus it may be that the immune enhancing affect of papaya helps fight the virus.

Re: Dengue Fever & Papaya Leaves

Damn, my conclusion is totally off.

Re: Dengue Fever & Papaya Leaves

it probably helps rebuild platelets or increase their production...which obviously would prevent a severe form of Dengue. Mortality is mostly because of severe internal bleeding if platelet levels fall dangerously low **

Re: Dengue Fever & Papaya Leaves

The dengue fever was known as fatal diseases in the world when there was no vaccination in the world but Pakistan successfully overcome this disease with mutual efforts as precautions and natural fruits is the best way to finish this chronic disease.

Re: Dengue Fever & Papaya Leaves

Well, I contracted the Dengue fever in Lahore right around that time when this thread was started (mid Sept 2011). Heard about the Papaya leaf extract but it sounded like bs. It was.. an extremely painful fever (felt like bones shattering) that lasted about 10 days. I don’t think it is a fatal illness unless you are elderly or under the age of 5 (read: weak immune response), nor do I know of any vaccination or cure for it.
