Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has also just celebrated two full years in power, despite all the predictions that he would not survive. :k:
Democracy triumphs: PM
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz Tuesday termed failure of no confidence triumph of democracy. “It is triumph of democracy. It is victory of truth and rightfulness,” the Prime Minister said in National Assembly after the no confidence move by opposition met its fate. Only 136 votes in the House of 342 came in favour of the no confidence motion. Shaukat Aziz thanked PML(Q) and members from the allied parties for reposing confidence in him. He also thanked opposition parties for peaceful proceedings and taking part in the debate. The Prime Minister said the whole process was completed according to spirit of democracy and will help strengthen democracy, Pakistan and Islamic norms. He also thanked Speaker national Assembly Chaudhry Amir Hussain for smoothly conducting the House business during the marathon session for disposal of the motion.
In his remarks, Leader of the Opposition, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said the opposition could foresee the result knowing the numerical strength in the House. “No confidence motion is not always meant to change the government. It was our democratic right and we drew attention of the government towards its failures,” he said. The leader of the opposition claimed that Prime Minister did not reply to their allegation mentioned in the no confidence motion. “We are democratic people. Our workers have sacrificed for the cause of democracy and we pledge to restore sanctity of the constitution,” he added.
