democracy in Islam

Hi people,

First of all, Eid Mubarak to everyone. I hope everyone had a great Eid. Now to my problem.

I am writing a critical essay on the idea of democracy in Islam. I need some online sources on this material from Islamic point of view. All i’ve found is people writing what they think how democracy can work or why it hasn’t work.

What i need is, definition/explaination of democracy from Islamic point of view. What is the role of people in the government? Do people have the right to take part in the affairs of the government in Islamic government? and all of this good fun stuff.

Can anyone point out some online articles on this subject?

thanks

In a democracy the elected loby has a right to change the law by following due norms.
It is never possible to change the Islamic laws. So talking of democracy in Islam has no meaning.

Thousands of articles are written over this subject and usually the authors have tried to proove that democracy is very much an Islamic thought...all such articles are nothing but eye wash.

the same thing can be said about a dictatorship or whatever form of government there is. If the leader or the government doesn't answer to the people, they can do wutever they want.

There are things in Islam that must be changed according to the needs and requirements of the time. Offcourse the main idea behind a Quranic law doesn't change, for example, every able Muslim must pay Zaqat, but the amount can be changed according to the economies and the needs of the time.

anyways, as you said yourself, there are hundreds of articles on this topic and there is no point having a discussion of it at this point. thanks for the reply

anyone else wants to share any online resources on this topic??

thanks a lot
