Ahmed Chalabi, head of the Iraqi National Congress and tipped to lead a post-war government in Iraq, has said that the Indian democratic system should be taken up as a model for his country. He also expressed his desire to visit India.
Democracy in India is a marvel of civilisation. We (Iraqis) hope in some respects to have a political system similar to India.
Dr. Chalabi, in an interview on Third Eye TV
Does this person Mr. Ahmed Chalabi make any sense?
Pakistan is as much of a democracy as Egypt.. why should we be ashamed.. we know we're a quasi-democratic society with all powers resting with the General-du-jour whose strings are pulled elsewhere.
it's however quite shameful for the US, the champions of democracy, to lose to India when it comes to being the poster boy... and that too after they liberated Chalabi's country. The ingrate.
Well, it is only natural to let your imagination get so wild. Iraqis can't even possibly dream about modeling themselves after the US style governance. Most they can do is hope for something closer to a regional type of setup. Every country in Asia should follow Indian model of democracy and tolerance of differing faiths.
by this are you referring to the model of democracy that involves periodic state sponsered ethnic cleansing of minority groups?
wow, there is a model of governance and democracy for the entire world to emulate!
It appears Chalabi has seen how affectively the Indians are taking care of their minority problems by burning thousands of them to death. Maybe he seeks this is model to clear up the the mess in his country on ethnic lines - let the Kurds, Shia and sunnies burn each other and leave all the oil and revenue to be shared between USA, and some puppet leaders of Iraq :)
