My father is a pilot. He has to take flights multiple times within a week and there are days & days when we don’t get to see him. Of course, it is the nature of his job that demands this but does this happen with other professions too? We miss him, my mother and siblings miss him. The long working hours in the day which sometimes even extend to days are just aweful!
Re: Demanding jobs - life of the family?
I know what you are talking about. Not only my dad, but my brother is on flight almost all the time. And you never know when they will be where. It's very 'disruptive'. Not to mention that it's very exhausting for the pilots.
I know what you mean. My fiance is working in an IT company in Australia. People who work in this field get drained due to the real time nature of their work. It varies from specialization to specialization or department to department but I have seen many desis and many people abroad really sacrificing their personal & social life due to their work demands. They have to work with different teams in and out of the country so have odd timings of work which get extended depending on needs.
I really miss him when he is loaded with work and has no time to talk ![]()
I miss my father and brother too :(
Family dinners have become a thing of the past.. and I don't like calculating time differences before making calls either!

^I don't even know when they are abroad. Sometimes I call them or sms them only to discover that they are in a completely different location/continent/time zone. Sometimes it's very frustrating.
Re: Demanding jobs - life of the family?
I myself feel this some times. I am also working in the IT field, my job takes up about 9 hours of work and another 2 hours of travel. Plus, i am also studying so i too feel it many times that i dont find enough time for myself or for my family.
This case is also for my brother. He is an IT consultant, due to his job he is traveling cities and countries within one week. He is working 24/7. The higher the stature of the job, the more demanding it is. But he travels home every Friday just to be with us.
IT related jobs are extremely demanding due to the nature of the job. Many a times, we have to work over time, weekends or even public holidays if work demands it so our personal & social life is greatly affected too.
